“But it looks like Don't Starve!” Well... yes, but no.

For its proud claim to be a "survival game," it definitely lacks the teeth and temper. Winter Burrow is way too cute and reminds of a good old fairy tale, this one where relatives die painful deaths and the main characters risk their lives for basic necessities. You know, an average Tuesday in the good old days. Overall, you really have to try hard and use all your skill and gaming experience to die. The game forgives everything, like those toxic relationships you keep telling yourself you’ll escape from. A few enemies are nothing to fear, as they are usually slow, do little damage, and in the time between their attacks, any self-respecting ADHD gamer can watch a couple of videos. Even the weather conditions are predictable and can be countered with a hat and warm underwear. For a hardcore survivalist, this just isn’t enough, as there is simply no challenge in the game. Quests are simple, straightforward, and very, very monotonous (which didn't prevent my great survivalist genius from challenging the system and getting stuck in the middle of an area, not understanding where to go or what to do next). However, for a tired brain, this is just what you need, when the story just calls for the usual "fetch and carry" and "find someone", especially with its gorgeous visuals and matching music.

Winter Burrow would be perfect for mobile platforms, with all its naivety, simplicity, and unobtrusiveness. For a relaxing pastime, on sale or as a survival game for the little ones, it’s a good purchase. However, for other platforms, the price tag is quite high, considering the game's length and overall level.
