RUSH is a skydiving and wingsuit racing game for VR. It was originally made for Gear VR. It has now been reworked and re-released with enhanced graphics and better gameplay for PC. All major headsets and motion controllers are supported.

You start the race by jumping off something tall like a tower or a mountain. Then you glide in your wingsuit, going through checkpoints and trying not to crash until you reach the finish line.

The game is very liberal with controls and settings. You can play seated or standing, with or without controllers. I recommend going “all in” and playing standing, using your hands to control movement. It can be a surprisingly good arm workout. I have not experienced any motion sickness but your mileage may vary.

There are 3 game modes:

• Race: Compete against 11 opponents (AI or real people). Whoever posts the fastest time and gets to the finish line in one piece – wins. Make sure not to miss any checkpoints or you will get a time penalty.
  
• Time Attack: Same as the Race but this time you need to beat your best time.
  
• Score Challenge: Instead of getting to the finish line as fast as possible, you need to fly through as many checkpoints as possible (and there are significantly more of them compared to the regular races). Some checkpoints have smaller targets in them that are often moving and are very hard to hit.

You get the usual bronze/silver/gold medals if you finish in the top 3. You will need to earn a certain amount of medals in races to unlock new environments and “tracks”.

There are four different environments from snowy mountains to dusty canyons, each with a number of events. You will unlock new wingsuits and swag for successfully progressing through the challenges.

RUSH is not just a quick mobile port. Graphics have much improved and there is a huge assortment of settings for anything from draw distance to antialiasing that can challenge any gaming rig. I could play on medium (specs below) but you may need GTX 1080 or better if you want to max everything out. All the environments, models and weather effects look very good.

Unless you have a friend to play with, it will be hard to find a match. There is rarely anyone playing this game on Steam and I don’t know if the multiplayer is cross-platform. Thankfully you can continue playing singleplayer while you are waiting for an opponent so you don’t have to sit in the lobby.

RUSH is a fun and unique racing game. There are a lot of races but they do not feel very different so it can get repetitive. I can certainly see myself jumping in for a short session every now and then. I would recommend waiting for a sale which will hopefully also boost a player count for the multiplayer.
