All the wrong gameplay and level design decisions were made with this one. It's a promising premise, and beautiful world, but I spent most of my time frustrated with level design and bonfire placement worse than Demon Souls or DS2. Consumable bonfires with a limited supply was a baffling design decision. Combat is also very "clunky", and I did not enjoy having to use the umbral realm gimmick in boss fights to cancel abilities.

They evolved the formula, just in a direction I enjoyed less than the original. It's still a fun time regardless.
