how sad.
so much promise, so much let down

also, starting to think online games should be required to open source the servers for the communiy once they don't give a ♥♥♥♥.

Right on.
Like, you mentioned. this is a departure for me in gaming as well. And so far it's been a blast!
After you get the feel for it, check these out... (currently having hosting issues)

The first adds multiplayer, the second adds massive amount of content. (They are not compatible with each other).

Have fun!

Correct. There is no reason that is a problem. Your video card supports it, and it is "just as good" as DirectX. They are just two different languages for software developers can use to make your game. It's actually kind of cool that the support both.

Where you would notice a difference is in really high end applications that are very targeted to a particular system to eek out as much performance as possible. Usually developers would only do those special things in one of those tools, not both.

You may want to investigate why you are having issues with DirectX anyway, just for peace of mind (or nawing interest). But you could run OpenGL in ETS2 and not know the difference.

If the registry was corrupted, wouldn't I have issues altogether?

It's possible to have corruption in specific key paths that are only limited to one application, but I don't think that's your issue. Unless for some reason the DirectX settings themselves have an issue. I would try the reinstall of vid drivers. But there should also be no reason to just run in OpenGL. In fact, it might be better depending on some settings.

i would check (or even reinstall) the nvida drivers.

Have you tried explicitly starting with directx or opengl? Or safe mode for that matter (all of which should be accessible by right clicking app in steam)

Good luck! Looks fun.

I'm pretty new to the game.... but it doesn't have multiplayer?! Unless there is a mod for that? I which case I would suggest seeing if the mod devs have support.

EDIT: Woah, is this what you have?
Sweet! If so, they have a support system on the main page.

What happens after you get that message? It DOES say there is a problem when changing versions it starts saves over (i forget the actual text). In case you had an early demo or.... some 'free' version.

Jamie, if can you ALT-TAB over to the window when this is happening and see the game? (Even if it then goes away?)
Also, what graphics card are you using and are you running the game in Dx or Ogl ?

When game launches, it's just a black screen. I hear audio. If I Alt-Tab to a different window, the game will draw behind the windows and I will see everything. If I click in the game window, it will return to black.

In topic This was
In SubSpace forgotten
though many memories filled,
we flew with each other
each own ship to its skill.

We danced and we floated,
sometimes fought all outright.
On teams with each other
different games through the night.

We spent so many days
or was it so many years?
That we traveled together
I've lost track now, I fear.

As I look back there now
it seems time was belayed.
The craft has come farther
but an innocence it betrayed.

Now so many new titles
miss a truth that we had.
An old fashion knowledge,
so in Continuum be glad.

It's all about the people
and the communities that grow.
Friends shape who we are
as they come and they go

So I look to the future
but to one point I distill

To all of Deva...

...I miss you still

For those that want less, No or reduce city states:

go to your steam folder - steam apps - common - sid miere's civilization vi - base - assets - maps - utility - and find the file named " AssignStartingPlots"

First: Back up the file. If you break it, it's not my fault.
After the file is backed up, right click and hit edit: Find the line that says " self.iNumMinorCivs = PlayerManager.GetAliveMinorsCount(); " and change it to " self.iNumMinorCivs = 0; " This will set number of city states to 0. If you want a few but less, change " 0 " to the number you want.

NOTE: Make sure it's the line that says "MinorCivs" not "MajorCivs". Minor is the second one listed.

FYI: Default city states is 1.5 times the default number of players. (On huge, default is 18 city states and 12 civs but can go up to 24 city states if i read some files correctly)

Hope this helps. And make sure you have the ; at the end of the line or you will break stuff.

I find your detail curious in light of your usage of spaces and hypens to denote folders. If you're going to describe a system of options in sequence, (that are not folders) I prefer the pipe. It looks more coolerer. But then again, no use in confusing people that would be confused with actualy giving the path to the file in question.

Also, this works the same way... And although I like your suggestion better, this is how you can change your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ city names too :)
