Is the game good? Probably. It seemed fun enough during my short playthrough. The main issue with the game is that it is an open world RPG but you can't change your main characters gender. Those of you who hate playing as a different gender than your own will know that this is a pretty big deal breaker.

This game is not incredibly narratively focused to the point where your protagonist has to be male, They literally have a character in the game whom you could easily swap leads with and they would be just as effective in the story.

This game and the Witcher 3 both have lead protagonists that do not inherently have to be male and are both Open world RPGs. I hope that developers realize that 51% of the worlds population plays video games too.

Edit:

Hahah you all are very adorable, getting mad over an opinion.

Some clarification I guess,

First off, Games like Metroid/Uncharted/Tomb Raider/Last of us are not role playing games, not in the sense that you level up a character and fine tune them to your playstyle while affecting the world with your choices. In the aformentioned games, You are witnessing a story. Drake is in Uncharted and your choices are detached from his enough that his feels like a seperate entity from you. You are just watching his adventure. There is no need for a female version of the character because you have little to no agency in that world.

This game and the Witcher 3 are vastly different in that respect. For all intents and purposes you are the main character. You make decisions, you level them up to suit your playstyle. They are your visage in that world. Dying light has less of an excuse than Witcher 3 does, Atleast Witcher 3 is based on literature where Geralt is a main character.

The plot for this story would be no different whether it had a male or female lead. It would be like if Skyrim or fallout were gender locked, it makes no sense.

_SwiFt_ MariaInATopHat , Yeah, it sucks being around men, that's why I mostly have friendships with other women. Also, my entire team at work is comprised of only women. If you had to choose between a game that made you nausious or a game that was inferior but didn't make you nausious, I bet you would pick the inferior game 9 time out of 10. There are other women like me that have this same issue, I bet there are men that have this problem as well (though, I think their problems would be alot harder to deal with). I can not recommend a game that makes me feel ill.

"i just get nauseos and jittery around men" so your saying you're living in a constant state of agony everyday of your life do you have any male friends? theres a difference between bears and men bears wont show up that often unless you search them out or if you do somthing very certain like leaving food out yes maybe onece every maybe 11 months you might see a bear depending where you live. so what your saying is basically "this thing hurt me i scared of dat thing i scared don't want to see" it dosn't make sence thats like getting poisened by a leaf while you live in a forest you're not going to move costing you money then when you play games with leaves you auto dislike it becuase that thing hurted you once not considering any story or you know the GAME is it a good game who cares it has leaves i dont like it. That could be the best game in the world and you dislike it becuase it has leaves that is serious idiotic levels of stupid

the only thing is that his profile is private and we cant tell if hes a troll by looking at his games and side note you only play games that let you change gender well that kills half of all games on steam

Law, Sorry didnt mean to imply you were a liar, everyone handles trauma differently. It was not my intent nor my drive. I doubt either of us want to do a scar off... or.. whatever it would be called. Not everyone who goes off to war has PTSD, not everyone who gets beaten in a back alley has PTSD, Not everyone raised in a household with an abusive parent has PTSD. But some do.

Gonzo, I get what you are trying to piece together, This review is more for the developers than it is for anyone trying to buy the game (Except those that this kind of stuff matters, and trust me, I am not the only person.) For a game that is not narratively focused to have a forced gender is not helpful nor is it fully necessary. Or soemthing. I am not entirely certain at the moment. still havea 101 fever. gonna space out to a game, have a good day.

Did not suggest you should positively rate it, just pointed out that giving a game a negative review for not catering to every person with fears and phobias makes the review a joke. The literal only reason youre giving it a negative review is after all because "you have problems". One would think that just MAYBE going "oh, crap - another game that i cant play due to my problems, shit." and moving on with your life would be the natural thing to do? instead of literally coming up with the most unhelpful review to the community ever written.

I can be wary of Pit Bulls without having a debilatating fear of them. I could be wrong but it kind of seems like you called me a liar... would you like to see my scars? It's pretty fucking awful. It certainly wouln't keep me from playing a game where the main enemy was Pit Bulls, or where I had to play as a Pit Bull... that's just silly. It's not real.

Gonzo, honestly, all reviews are opinion peices based on the life narrative of the individual that is playing the game. I know of other women who have this same issue, this review is more for them than it is for the general public. If I gave it a negative review without explaining than really your point would be well... on point. That would be a pointless negative review.

Personally, I could not enjoy this game, I then shared WHY I couldn't enjoy this game. I would not positively rate a game that I personally didn't enjoy. That would be a lie.

Plus, I find it hillarious how many SJW's get all pissy about this review.

I can understand you not wanting to play a game where you roleplay as a "bear" if youve had a mauling by one, but why give the game a bad review and tell other people without bear phobia to steer clear of it (which is the point of a negative review) when its clearly you who have the problem? Most people would not care wether the person you played was male or female as its not really the point of the game, most people - so giving a negative review because a (in my opinion) decent game doesnt cater to your specific brand of "emotional issues" makes your entire "review" kind of a joke, and THAT'S what i think most people are pointing out. Not getting "offended" that you cant take roleplaying as a "bear".

it Isnt an open world RPG, its an open world game with rpg elements.
