Utterly charming but surprisingly grindy. MMO-like levels of strung-out progression, it's unfortunate that almost every main and side quest in the game is about the same length. The art direction propels it a ton, though - is probably the best I've seen since StarCraft 2 or Dawn of War II for an isometric game. Goofy, expressive, bright, readable.

I also like the way that EG2 makes scale functional, and not just a spectacle. Locating enemies in your base can be genuinely hard, enemy agents leave behind hard-to-find gadgets, and the distance between base facilities matters, as it can reduce the efficiency of your minions.

Ultimately it feels great to build a big ol' evil ant farm, just be prepared to put 35 or 40 hours into your first campaign.
