I also don't like that while exploring I feel less rewarded for doing so than the original Hollow Knight. It always feels like I'm going to stumble across a boss or arena in times where I'm trying to enjoy a low where I'm expecting it.

He played the original game, pretty heavily implied that. "Hornet is faster and more acrobatic" doesn't mean ♥♥♥♥, early game enemies shouldn't hit that hard and the learning curve shouldn't be like that.
