Thought I'd leave a review for this game although I usually do this for lesser known titles I enjoyed. But while Songs for a Hero has more than 3000 reviews, around 90% of these are in Brazilian Portuguese, because the developers are from Brazil and the game was only available in Portuguese in the beginning.

Songs for a Hero is a 2D platformer that is somewhat reminiscent of games like Wonderboy in Monster World. You unlock abilities throughout the story that you need to progress but that can also be used to find hidden collectibles in earlier stages. The main game features 8 Worlds with a total of 22 Levels and including the hidden bosses there are 14 boss fights. In most levels there are 3 Notes to collect and in every world are 4 chests which contain health and mana upgrades.
The difficulty is pretty fair and I had no trouble playing through the game casually.

So far nothing spectacular but what makes the game uniqe is its narration. The narrator sings about almost every action that you take even if it's just standing still for a short while. The voice of the narrator takes some time to get used to but I soon started to enjoy it. The lyrics also contain a lot of meta humor about 2D platformers which i liked a lot.

Regarding the achievements you need to finish the main game and the Epilogue DLC, while also getting all aforementioned collectibles in both of them. There are some challenges in a few levels but nothing too hard besides maybe collecting all coins in the minecart section in the main game. What is more difficult and will probably take you a few tries are the no-hit achievements for each of the 14 bosses. But since you can select every boss fight directly after you unlocked it and you can also restart instantly after getting hit using the pause menu it shouldn't get too frustrating.

100% achievements should take about 15-20 hours and isn't too hard at most a 5/10 in difficulty.

Colorful 2D platformer in the vein of the Donkey Kong Country games but a bit more on the easy side compared to these. Although it was relatively short on release with only 3 Worlds there was the Hidden World update in 2022 which added a fourth world of which every level has a second harder version so in total it got about 66% more content now.

Also compared to DKC it lacks a bit of variety, not regarding the level design, the levels look quite different from each other and especially in the Hidden World. But the levels have no major changes in gameplay it's more or less the same for all of 'em. In the boss levels you only chase the boss until he stops at the end of the level, there are some levels with minor chase sequences or short autoscroll-sections and that's basically it. So nothing compared to DKCs mine cart or animal buddy levels or the varied boss fights.

But that's also the only critique and since it isn't as long as the DKC games it isn't really that bad. Besides that the sound design and the music are really great and although it's relatively easy as mentioned before, getting all gold medals in time trial mode and the Cataclysm mode in Hidden World were a welcome change in difficulty.

I wrote this review mainly because I think this game deserves more attention and if it hadn't been in a bundle recently I would've totally missed it although it's one of my favorite genres.

Now that was a perfect hidden gem for me that definitely deserves more attention.
Played the story together with my 6-year-old and had a ton of fun. The difficulty was perfect for him for the most part and if a section was too hard you always have the option to grab your co-op partner and carry him.
Also you can do a lot of silly stuff like stacking trampolines which caused a lot of laughter.

Besides that Pile Up is also challenging enough by having a lot of collectibles and a speedrun achievement that thankfully doesn't need to be done in one sitting and force quitting resets your timer to your last savepoint.

I'd say 100% achievement difficulty is 4-5 / 10

Got the game in a bundle several years ago and played it only because you can get all achievements relatively fast. The most annoying thing in the game was definitely the bad collision detection that often causes you to get stuck in walls when you try to pass some traps.

After I completed the game I looked into the reviews and saw that the game is just a ripoff of a tutorial. There is some repetitive music and the features promised by the dev in some of his responses were never added. At least the achievements do work and the price got dropped but even for the current price there are a lot better games out there.

Although I highly doubt someone will still buy this game in 2023, I just wanted to not recommend it.

Short, cute and easy platformer that's suited to introduce kids to gaming. My 5 year old enjoyed it although he already had played more difficult games. Also suitable for adults that want to play a short and relaxing game.

There's a reason this game is one of the best selling and highest rated games on steam ever.
If you haven't played it, do so. Now!

I rarely write reviews but I found this game just deserves some more recognition.

You play as the cue ball in a game that very loosely follows the rules of pool, namely you are only allowed to pocket the eight ball after you pocketed the others.Besides that there are around 100 levels that have a lot of variety in creating different scenarios. Sometimes 2 or 3 levels have a somewhat similar setting but always with a little addition so in the end no 2 levels feel exactly the same. In most levels you can walk around while aiming at the other balls, and you can also push the other balls by walking into them. You can earn up to 4 awards in a level for beating them within a limited time, with a limited number of shots, pocketing all balls before ending the level and ending the level without faults (pocketing the cue ball or the eight ball before the required number of other balls were pocketed). Some levels were a bit harder regarding the awards but if you're not a completionist you don't need to worry about them at all, but for those who care I managed to get the "Award Hoard 360" achievement in less than 20 hours. I haven't got all achievements so far but if you like me were worried because of the low unlock percentages for many of the achievements, most of them are pretty easy, I guess just a lot of casual players lost interest before reaching the required levels. If you're playing the game casually and don't care about the level awards I guess it would take you around 6 hours or so to complete all levels.

Pros:
+ A lot of levels featuring a great variety
+ Awards for every level that sometimes require different strategies
+ Interesting artstyle

Cons:
- Overworld is pretty big, with little to discover between the levels besides the cardboard cutouts
- Physics can act weird sometimes which can be annoying if it screws your attempt when you're going after a more difficult award

All in all I had a ton of fun so far with it, and I'm really glad I tried it.

I never owned a Playstation and therefore never had the opportunity to play these gems. It was a pleasure to finally be able to rectify that omission. Also my son absolutely loved it when we played with "purple dragon".

First and only clicker game I actually played until the end and without spending any money on it. Some events that were held were nearly impossible without an auto-clicker but all in all nothing spectacular but a decent free clicker game to waste your time on.
