If you like games like Stardew Valley or the My Time games, you'll love Dave the Diver. If you don't like Stardew Valley, well, you might be some kind of monster, but you'll probably still love Dave the Diver.

Short version: If you like these kinds of games, absolutely get this game.

Long version: It's a builder game rather than a farmer, but it's similar to Stardew Valley in all the important ways, and I would say better in many of them. It's pretty, more story (an actual storyline! gasp!), more developed characters and side stories, and the gameplay's quality of life is SO MUCH BETTER. It feels like a Portia dev looked at the most popular Stardew mods, and added them all to this game.

Highly recommend this game, especially for Paper Mario fans! The characters are likable, dialogue is entertaining, and the story is satisfying with excellent pacing and progression. Combat is lots of fun -- as with PM, you can use medals to make a ton of different builds, and they have an additional quirk that PM doesn't, which is the ability to pass turns to other characters in your party. My only complaint is that the game sometimes requires precision that it feels like the controls are lacking -- some platforming felt pretty clunky and kind of hit and miss. I'm not great at platforming, and some early-game sequences were very frustrating. Glad I stuck with it though, it was absolutely worth it!

I loved this game for what it was, which is an easy to pick up murder mystery visual novel with Picross that isn't quite as in-depth or complex as say, the Ace Attorney series, or any dedicated Picross game. It's basically Ace Attorney Lite + Picross Lite; it does both of those things fairly well, but neither REALLY well. So if you're looking for something more deep and involved on either count, this might not be for you; if you're looking for a fun ride, I'd highly recommend it!

The soundtrack is excellent and does a great job of setting the tone for scenes (I purchased it and listen to it outside the game), the characters are endearing, and the visual design is fantastic. Another plus: the game does a great job of promoting representation without being in your face about it.

Gorgeous, clever, unique. It's short, but the entire 2-3 hours was a constant stream of mental "oh wow"s and "WHOA THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN" and felt like a completely different experience from any other game. Highly recommend.

Short version:
If you don't like long, involved games, or (J)RPGs, then I'm not sure why you are even on this page, but don't buy it.

For everyone else: Charming and memorable characters, *incredible* amount of attention to detail, fun battle system, great story. Greater than the sum of its parts. Buy it.

(Disclaimers: Play the first game first! And start this one on Normal difficulty unless you're a masochist!)

Slightly longer version:
I can't recommend the Trails series enough for anyone who likes RPGs, especially JRPGs. The amount of detail in these games is astounding -- dozens of NPCs have their own little stories running throughout BOTH Trails in the Sky games, if you take the time to talk to them. For instance, (non-main plot related) there are a couple of NPCs in the first game's first town who are in the process of getting together, and as you keep talking to them you see their relationship develop. In the second game, you find they're engaged, there is a sidequest to retrieve their lost wedding ring, and if you walk into the church past a certain story point, you'll even see their wedding, and your party's reactions!

I'd recommend this to anyone who likes RPGs at all. Gameplay is great. Story is good although nothing special. Where this game REALLY stands out is its incredible attention to detail, charming and memorable characters, and painstaking worldbuilding.

Buy it if you: like long and involved stories, like talking to NPCs (they all have their own stories! and they KEEP GOING!), like JRPGs, or any of the things above.

Don't buy it if you: are impatient for stories that hit the ground running, like self-contained stories, or just don't want to have nice things.
