For almost 10 years this has been a positive review with a few hundreds upvotes.

Why it is now a negative one:
The devteam currently holding the game's IP decided to soften down Skullgirls's themes and make the game less "offensive"/"controversial" across the board.

The above includes changing sprites, deleting voice lines, deleting story mode art, altering concept art, deleting featured guest art (including ones made to express support during the game's crowdfunding period or drawn during a charity drive for breast cancer research), as well as deleting the soviet announcer voice pack (which by itself was a reward to the community for an achieved stretch goal in the game's 2013 Indiegogo campaign).

The last one, all but passingly mentioned among changes, is in fact difficult to justify with any of the officially stated reasons behind modifying the game. As such, it's hard do see it as anything but a petty vendetta against the game's original creator.

If this new vision was put in a sequel - while I still wouldn't be happy with it - I could just not buy it, ignore it, leave my old review intact and continue to enjoy Skullgirls as it was originally envisioned.
However, Hidden Variable Studios decided to express their politics by altering and removing existing assets from a decade old game (as well as its digital art compendium DLC), something I disagree with on principle. Therefore this in turn is me expressing dissatisfaction with the present and concern for the future of a game and IP I supported all these years.

It is by the way dismaying to see a chunk of the community immediately disregard any censorship-related objections of concerned players and eagerly accuse them of sexism, racism, pedophilia and supporting nazi ideology - all because said players dared criticize Hidden Variable Studio's actions regarding the game.

I realize those reactions are not part of the update itself though, so while I do mention it out of care for a community I used to be a part of, I decided to not include it in the review itself.
