Best Steam Friend Is Austin Iono (or whatever his name is, since right now his Steam alias is "Xanthrad Magus")

Usually A Lone Wolf Except With Austin Iono, His Brother, And Very Few Other Steam Friends.

Only the top 70 games in my Wishlist is ordered to how I want it. Considering how it's rare to have actual games gifted, I personally only use the Wishlist as a list of potential games I may be interested in buying in the future for myself, using it as a dumping grounds for a wide assortment of games. If anyone is considering games to gift, I might not recommended looking around in just the Ranked Order.

I bought this game way back in Mid-2017 b/c it was on a good sale, and never touched it since until I was bored one day in Mid-October of 2018, and thought "F*ck it, why not" and finally tried out this game.

Considering how much I now play this game on a mostly-daily basis, and own all of the Character/Campaign DLCs, and have 100% campaign completion, I feel like this game deserves a review from me.

Disclaimer

This game was created with the intentions of making an Online Board Game, not a Video Game. Therefore, I will be treating this review/judgement of this game as such, so memes like "100% RNG Juice" the community loves to state won't be considered except for the Singleplayer Campaign. This is a Board Game dictated by Dice & Cards, which is Luck-Based by default for many Board Games; 100% Orange Juice is no special exception in this regard.

Campaign Opinions

The campaigns are definitely nice. You have 4 different characters w/ their own story lines you can choose by default, however some character DLCs can let you play extra campaigns. The Base Campaign, Sweet Guardian, and Xmas Campaigns iare, at the very least, fairly nice to play. The characters you meet in these campaigns all have their own charm, having pretty comical moments in the campaigns, and is a nice way for newcomers to experience how to play the game before they play Multiplayer.

There are two pretty bad cons to the campaign however. Firstly, the Campaigns you get from the DLCs are practically never worth doing outside Extreme Difficulty, as they give you no rewards for completing them in any other Difficulty. This is really bad, as not only is Extreme Difficulty a garbage fire in its gameplay, it gives no incentive for anyone else not a Collector/Completionist to ever do any Non-Base Game Campaign. In some cases, such as Girl Power or Old Guardians, not even the Casual Players, as those two in particular are so lacking in what made the other campaigns feel great to play at a story level.

Speaking of Extreme, that is actually the second, much bigger issue with Campaigns; Extreme Difficulty is actually F*cked. CPUs at Extreme Difficulty is the equivalent of playing against people in real life who would bring their own weighed dice for board games to cheat; Everything goes their way, it is outstandingly unfair, and it is not fun to play. It can even ruin the game for newcomers & lesser-experienced people. Unfortunately, as I already alluded to in the prior paragraph, this is also the difficulty mode you are forced to play in order to gain the campaign completion rewards for DLC Campaigns, and this is made even worse as some of the DLC Campaign Rewards actually require you to complete every Non-DLC Campaign on Extreme first, before you can actually get your DLC Campaign reward, which is really disgusting. This alienates many players from ever getting these rewards, or even just completing the campaigns in the first place, as they would often get nothing out of playing the campaigns unless they devote blood and tears to RNGsus to let them win each campaign game on Extreme.

Personally, I would do the following things to help make campaign more enjoyable to a much wider range of players:
  • Remove the Weighed Dice CPUs have on Extreme Difficulty, as well as the Weighed Dice the Players themselves have on Casual Difficulty (as it can cause newcomers to make poor decisions in mulitplayer), and instead base the campaign difficulties on actual, properly-made A.I. Levels, similar to what CPU players do in games such as Chess.

  • Give more incentive for players to complete campaigns; give rewards for Normal & Original Difficulties along with what you get for Extreme Difficulty; Orange_Juice at least kind of did this with the Non-DLC Campaigns, so I don't know why they wouldn't do this with the DLC Campaigns. It feels like an extremely poor design choice.

If you start out playing the game, then play on Normal or Original on the Default Campaigns; They are a good way to let you get the hang of the general game, and are pretty worthwhile story-wise most of the time. Outside of Girl Power/Old Guardians & Extreme Difficulty's RNG, everything else about the game's Campaigns are definitely worth playing.

    Gameplay

100% Orange Juice is a Board Game that uses Dice to dictate everything that happens, giving you various tools such as cards & tactics to help you win.

In other words, if you are an individual whom is a veteran playing board games, this phrase translated would most likely be the following: 100% Orange Juice uses Dice for everything, therefore you are using every tool & tactic you have that the game offers you to the best of your ability in order to maximize your odds of winning.

This game was created with the intention of making a board game, as such you will find everything that a board game would often give in this game as well; Playable characters having unique attributes differing them from others, Dice Rolls, Cards that can help you in one way or another, with each of said cards being much better or much worse depending on said character, DLC in the semi-format of "Expansion Packs", rage, salt, destruction of friendships, etc. While I could describe the "How-To's" about the game, it would make this review much more bloated than it should. and is ultimately unnecessary to, considering how simple the game is to understand to play.

What I can say about the gameplay, however, is my thoughts about it, all of which being very much positive. How the board game plays is great, the balancing is almost perfect, and the diverse playstyles depending on the person are all wonderful. Much like games such as Uno, Monopoly, etc., It can fit a wide demographic of players whom are Laid-Back & Casual, Competitive-minded people, those wanting to cause Chaos, and all those in-between whom are looking for a board game.

    Music

The music in this game is outstanding. Every character has their own specific theme, fitting the traits/personality of their character extremely well. Because there are a wide array of characters w/ unique personalities & source material (their origins, etc.), this means there are a wide array of different songs. Some characters may have calm, upbeat, "Mandatory-Happy-Village-JRPG-song" themes, while other characters can have Techno, Piano-Trance, Heavy Metal, etc., giving each character a unique kind of trait that would make someone say "This character genuinely isn't too good/consistent to effectively play at a practical level, but I still main him/her because their theme is awesome" as a justifiable reason to play a specific character.

The only con I would have had about the game's music is that there is no way to have an official OST as a Download/Buyable Soundtrack (No, "Another Ultimate Weapon" does not count in this regard. Though I am happy it is at the very least.). I say " would have had", because Every Song (except 3-ish) are Royalty-Free, which means that there is no way for Orange_Juice to make an OST for the game b/c of legal reasons, voiding this con. I myself was surprised to learn about this at 1st, considering how good the music was, until I remembered that this was an Indie Game.

    Conclusion

This is a great game for those who want a game to play with friends, and because of how accepting and casual the community can often be, it is also a great game you can just play with any random person. Not only that, The game, along with the DLCs, are very cheap while they're on a sale. If anyone on a budget wants a Board Game to play with others on, this is definitely one I can't recommend enough.
