It's 2019 and this primarily PvE game doesn't have an in game LFG or clan creation.

There's arbitrary limits on fireteam size in the OVERWORLD.

There's a whole mess of loading even with an SSD and correct NAT settings.

The new player experience is "Here's a level from the old game. Oh by the way, we're not going to let you change settings BEFORE you get into the thick of it."

Then it dumps you into the tower without much ceremony and stuffs all the old campaigns (which have been gutted of non-random rewards and have big chunks missing) on an NPC they don't even direct you to.

Don't bother. I was only F2p but i'd be furious if i actually paid money for this.

A great entry point for the Yakuza series. Kamurucho and Sotenbori feel lived in, alive and always a great spot for a brawl as the big man himself, or the mad dog. Also my nomination for the 'Best Environment' Award this year.

The controller itself is very functional, the hardware is nice and responsive and the configs available for games are a great idea, as well as really easy to tweak.

What lets it down is the software side of things. I understand to some degree why functionality is tied to big picture mode and to the steam client itself but if you want to get it to work with anything outside of steam, it's a royal pain in the backside.

I'll heartily recommend it to anyone who plans to use it exclusively for steam stuff. It's great in rocket league for example. I've even played civ V on it and it felt pretty natural. If you're looking for something for emulators or stuff outside of steam i'd say go for a console controller of your choice.

Right now, the software and out-of-steam support for the pad needs vastly improving. When that side of things changes i will gladly switch this review to a 'Yes'.

Early Access Review
From the perspective of a long time Payday 2 player:

The game is fun. It's still early access and needs a few more perks and perhaps the option for custom soundtracks.

Weapons feel interesting enough. The movement and aiming respond nicely, with weapons having the right amount of kick. Animations are superb both when firing and idle, with the more exotic weapons really shining.

The characters so far are decent with amusing lines between each other as well as the perk you've selected. Good call on those. I'm okay with tie in characters as they're purely cosmetic and have no bearing on gameplay.

I will, however point out that there is a weapon tied to cross promotion that is extremely good for the berserker class. They have softened the blow by unlocking it for everyone in the game as long as one player has the cross promotion, but it's still a worrying precedent and one i hope is not followed up on.

Now, the huge internet drama bit:

I'm fine with the microtransactions. The reason i personally was angry at Payday 2s is that they charged me for the game, nickel and dimed me for DLC and THEN had the gall to charge for RNG safes that weren't cosmetics but had stats.

This game however, is more like CS:GO. A charge for entry and then entirely optional cosmetic crates. And free DLC afterwards. If the crates fund the free DLC alongside the cost of entry, i am 100% fine with it.

I have a feeling some (but not all) of the frothing rage crowd are just getting angry because it looks similar to the payday thing but never bothered to read the info in the announcement so therefore it's indignant o' clock.

You may not personally like the microtransactions, but you're not losing anything by not participating in them besides some skins. If you want to show concern over anything, it should be over the 'shared content' weapons that came with the Torn Banner crossover.

Play this game. It's fun. It needs to get content a little quicker but the cosmetic DLC doesn't bother me one bit.

By all means look at my payday 2 review if you want to see my thoughts on that event, but the concerns i have for this game are nothing to do with the crates.

Another great 4 Player Co-Op game. Seems to not want to run when mumble is active, so if you use mumble, launch it AFTER the game. Otherwise, a fun, challenging and hectic combination of brawling, teamwork and hitting things with a GIANT MAGMA HAMMER. Best with 3 other pals.

Pretty fun teamwork airship combat game. Pilot ships. With whacking great diesel engines on them. And worryingly large cannons.
