This is definitely a game that's a love song to the fans, and otherwise it's just a fun but short hack n'slash.

WARNING: THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW AFTER NEARLY 100 HOURS OF GAME TIME ACROSS TWO PLAYTHROUGHS. I AM KEEPING THE DISCLAIMERS IN THE ORIGINAL REVIEW HERE TO KEEP THE CONSUMER INFORMED.

1). There are a lot of reviews saying that you have to pay $1.99 for an item to recustomize your character or loyal pawn in game, and this is false. You can buy the item if you wish, but it is also obtainable in game, it says as much on the steam page for the item as well as the other DLC available. While I think shortcut DLC is very lame, to put it politely, it is entirely optional in every facet and you are not pay walled from customizing your characters. This is not a defense of CAPCOM, this is combating misinformation.

2). If you're not aware, the game uses a single save file and unless it's really well hidden the character you make is the character you play. So be sure you're happy with the character you have visually before you start playing, because it'll take some time to find a barber as well as the item needed for character re-customization and the game warns you you can't change your species after character creation.

3). Performance in the major capital city is pretty gross currently, averaging in a window between 20-30fps on my PC build and seems to be a consistent problem for people regardless of whether there PC is a common build or sporting all the latest parts.

4). Outside of the capital city having frame rate issues, I've been having an absolute blast exploring the world and fighting different creatures along the way. My first three hours have been very fun, and I'm looking forward to where things go from here.

If the city performance is off putting to you, it is probably best to wait. If optional DLC is enough to keep you from purchasing, then be aware the game has plenty of it but the key word remains 'optional'. There's no real way to have a currently-neutral review here on Steam, so I'm clicking recommend for now in the hopes people can be informed without this getting lost in the waves of negative reviews.

There is a lot of love to be had in The Brew Barons, but a controversial choice to use AI voice work rather than opting for no voices at all leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you have no ethical concerns about that, it's easy to suggest The Brew Barons as a charming flight game with pub and brewery management sims attached to it. Otherwise, it's a pass from me.

Not my favorite game I've ever played because of lackluster dungeons and general world design, but the story, cast of characters, and soundtrack made it worth my time to play. I wouldn't get this unless it's on sale, in which case smack that buy button.

Palworld may be an early access game, and it may have garnered the nickname "Pokemon With Guns", but it's not your normal Early Access schlock and it's certainly so much more than "Pokemon With Guns". Derivative of multiple genres, an unlikely combination comes together to show the early inklings of something special that has kept me addicted for dozens of hours already with dozens more to come.
