Review Showcase
193 Hours played
-UPDATE AFTER 180 HRS AND CRADLE OF HUMANITY DLC.
OKAY forget the rest of this review and get the game with all the DLC. It's worth the ride of learning this beautiful game---unless you don't like space sims of course.

-UPDATE AFTER 100 hrs. Main plot mission is required to get HQ and gain access to other in-game perks such as teleportation. Yet despite this drawback, the game is still a very good open world space simulation with awesome ships to fly. And let us not forget about Cradle of Humanity...who doesn't want to fly the Terran's ships?

-Original review starts here

HIDDEN GEM BUT NOT FOR EVERYONE
Not for the faint at heart because there is a steep learning curve mostly in regards to the UI and Map usage and giving commands to ships you own. Especially if new to X games, you will mostly like need to watch youtube videos if you are unsure about what and how to do something.

TWO GAMES IN ONE
X4 is basically two overlapping games in one. It's a open ended free roam first person (or third person) space exploration, mining, empire building game with a strategy trade sim built in.

SOMEWHAT OUTDATED INTERFACE AND SINGLEPLAYER
The game map and UI both feel like something from the 1980's while the space universe and ships have similarities (visually) to Star Citizen. However while there is no planet exploration, ships are easier to obtain and (**COUGH** they don't cost real money like in that other space game). You can use a spacesuit and fly outside of your ship. Unlike in Elite Dangerous, you can hire NPCs to fly the ships you buy and build that space empire you've always dreamed of (similar to American/Euro Truck Simulator only in space). There is a real sense of accomplishment in X4.

BUGS
At times the game feels at times incomplete but is getting updated. The controls are limited and awkward sometimes and you can get stuck inside asteroids and space station buildings if you're not paying attention. The AI can be funny and frustrating in how they execute orders and fly. Thankfully the game is singleplayer so you can save it and reload. And SAVE OFTEN. No game crashes yet.

MISSIONS AND STORY
There are various missions that pop-up around the map but they are mostly optional with exception to the main plot mission. IMPORTANT NOTE: to unlock a headquarters(HQ) and some higher tier ships then there is a main plot mission that IS necessary to work through.

LONGER THAN AVERAGE LEARNING PERIOD...BUT WORTH THE EFFORT
After you figure out the controls (by either remapping them or using the defaults) andlearning basically how the game works (by watching tutorials on YouTube), it is fun to decide how you want to play.

saw ur comment on curt schilling's review off OOTP21. the game crashes once in a blue moon, if you change the autosave option from yearly to monthly its no problem. cheers
