First of, I am not a super hero fan. Hardly seen any superhero movies and never read any of the comics. But I am a huge Firaxis/Sid Meier fan, played most of the games from them. All the Civilization games, X-Com games and everything else, Only reason I got the game as I have never played a bad game from them and I love turned based games and card based games. If it was any other developer I would have not bothered purchasing the game.

I already knew it was not going to be like X-Com and had no expectations to be like it, as I had seen the interviews with the developer talking about the game.

If you don't want to read everything here is quick summery of my opinion of this game.

Positives
+Combat
+Sound
+Graphic Style
+Variety of Hero and every hero feels like a different style of game play.
+Voice Acting
+Runs brilliantly for me in 4K, now they have fixed the stuttering.

Neutral
=Story
=Side Stories
=Real money for Cosmetics (though there isn't much to choose from)
=Bugs (nothing game killing for me, just slight annoyances)
=The Abbey, exploring (without the talking)
=No real replayability unless you love the combat or they make NewGame+ decent.

Negatives
-The writing at the start of the game
-How long it takes till you get to do the battles consistently.
-The crashing
-NewGame+
-The Grind (If you want to unlock everything to be usable for one character)
-Take 2 Launcher
-Denuvo

Overall 7.5/10
I have gotten my monies worth (got the Legendary Edition (with Season Pass)
And will continue to play the game and look forward to the new heros from the DLC that is coming and what else they add with the DLC)

If you like turn based games or card games, i recommend it. Just getting past the initial long intro to the heroes and and everything else is the tough part, especially if you don't enjoy the dialogue, but I think it is worth the suffering for the combat when you get to the point of the game where you do combat regularly.

Now my review.

I like the graphic style and I think it suits the game. The voice acting is good and the sound is good. Music is unknown since I play most game with the music muted.

It takes forever for you to get going in the game and to start actually playing regular battles. But they do give you are a taste of the combat.

The writing is absolutely atrocious at the start, for me it was so bad, it nearly made me stop playing, but I wanted more of the combat, so I continued. The writing does get a lot better, nothing special, just a lot better than how it started and there is still parts of terrible writing/dialogue.

The Hero interaction in the Abby is like Persona without the dating, but the writing in Persona was fantastic and you wanted to talk more to the characters to learn more about them. But in Midnight suns, it felt like I wasn't The Hunter, I was The Councillor listening to all the Super Hero issues. (Is it me, or most of the Heroes are so up themselves (especially the Avengers), they think they are best thing since sliced bread).

The only thing I enjoyed about the Heros dialogue was learning about them, since I know nothing about the super heroes.

The main story I enjoyed and most of the side stories I enjoyed.

Now to the best part of the game. The combat. For some reason the turn based card combat draws me in. And every hero is a different play style. So many different combinations of heros makes so many different game playing styles. I always use different heros with every battle except for yourself (The Hunter), since that increases friendship with the heros you battle with.

I only play Ultimate III, some battles are still challenging and they are only the level 40 missions, everything else is too easy and would love to see higher difficulties.

The enemies max out at level 40. And the heros will continue to get stronger. Since I use The Hunter in nearly every battle. I am level 129 above the maximum of 25 and the rest of the heros are around level 20 above the max level and their friendship levels are about 20 levels above the maximum of 5. Every time you level normally or the friendship they get small bonuses to a particular stat.

Now I am just grinding to get my Max level of Darkness or 200 to Max level of Light of 200 on the same character. Unfortunately it is extremely grindy. You can get maximum of 2 light/dark points per battle, no matter how often you use the dark/light cards. Plus 1 more point if you relax in pool/sauna at night if its a Full Moon (light point), New Moon (dark point).

Also grinding to get the gloss to unlock all cosmetic items on one character. And another reason, when you max our your dark or light you get a 2nd card for the legendary card you got when you where are going light or dark. So if want every single card upgraded, you literally have to got to max level of dark/light and then max out the opposite since in newgame + you have to get all your cards again.

Luckily I thoroughly enjoy the combat, and I don't mind and enjoy spending some time in the game each day.

New Game+ is garbage, as you have to get your cards again as mentioned before, and you need to spend gloss again to unlock the cosmetic stuff to use. (With all the time I have spent on my main character, I still haven't unlocked everything to use in cosmetics and that's with playing only Ultimate III since I unlocked the difficulty. And my alignment level is only 90 darkness, going from 200 dark to 200 light.

Issues I have had with the game, when it first came out, stuttering was terrible (fixed now with the last patch).
Crashing, the game has crashed a lot, at least once every 10 hours for me.
Bugs (the last achievement doesn't work for me)
Enemies not disappearing after killing them (doesn't happen very often, but does happen)

Wow, what the game should have been when first released. Amazing effort to get it to this stage and without charging for the massive patches they have released over the years. Hello Games have regained a lot of respect from me for there constant effort of trying to make the game it should have always been. When they could have easily just abandoned the game and moved onto something else.

I enjoyed the game when it first came out, now it is just something so very different and so much better.

Highly recommend it to everyone.
