Wonderful setting, intriguing story, great mechanics. The way you have to look for instruction booklet pages to make sense of the world and game as a whole is such a wonderful way to convey the nostalgia of the late 90's early 2000's. Absolute masterpiece.

A remake that stays faithful to the source material while adding modern day additions and improvements. Dead Space has been one of my favorite games since its release in 2008 (except for 3, we don't talk about 3). 10/10 remake with much nostalgia to boot!

I have waited for this game since the early Kickstarter days. Although I feel quite mixed I cannot leave a bad review in good conscience. You can tell the team has put an incredible amount of work into this project.

First off, the visuals are absolutely amazing. The atmosphere and setting are a breath of fresh air compared to the yearly AAA churn outs we have sadly become used to. I have caught myself looking around several maps for minutes on end at times. The puzzles are interesting, well integrated into the maps and require some dedication to solve.

However, there are some downsides. As mentioned by others here, the game does not "hold your hand." Be ready to wander around and backtrack - a LOT. Because of the unusual setting and surroundings, one's game intuition regarding where to go or what to do is quite diminished. For me personally, this has resulted in being seemingly stuck for ages, only to figure out I missed a platform I'm supposed to step on and retrieve a weapon to progress the level (after combing through the map for literally half an hour).

The combat, oh the combat. I truly mean it when I say I expected more. So far the combat resembles a game of tag; where the player has to (most of the time) dodge enemy acid projectile attacks. And by dodge I mean running around in circles or hiding behind an obstacle. Wait for your piston gun to recharge, dodge, hit the enemy with a few "tags" and repeat. The firearm type weapons are nicely designed and feel like they pack a punch but ammunition is scarce. This ultimately means that combat is (usually) reduced to what I just described above.

With all of this in mind, including the length of the game, I honestly feel like the price tag is a bit much at the moment. I understand that it took the developers over 5 years to finish it, but one has to look at and judge the final product offered and not solely the effort and time put into said product. Overall it was a fun and interesting (and at times frustrating) experience.

Very, VERY interesting setting. I absolutely love the aesthetic of the game. Story is compelling but also convoluted at times, the ending was quite abrupt. Overall it was a good experience.

However, the poor optimization has to be mentioned. I am not one to put negative elements down in a review but I feel like this has to be addressed. The game breaking bugs and glitches have a really detrimental impact to an otherwise competent game (as of now).

-Also I feel like the addition of a melee button; as in a button that lets you do one melee swing quickly without having to switch weapons would be a great addition, to reduce time for smashing crates and to enhance the combat experience.

A step up to the shooters I love and have played for years. Feels authentic and real.. at times resembling a movie.

Good fun.

Can be grindy at times, but still good fun.

One of those games where you look at the time and cannot believe that over three hours have passed without you noticing.

A true WW1 experience.
