Since 2013 this game has become broken. You have three options:
  • Try to get an older version (provided you already own the game)
  • Play the original
  • Play Black Mesa
In the pre-SteamPipe (2013) state, this Source version of the game was pretty much the greatest thing Valve could've done with the game, being a far superior version with (most of the) same assets from the original.

Technical Details
In terms of the PC port, it's (still) bad. Getting the game is step 1, but getting all tweaks to make the game work properly are steps 2-200. Additionally, not only have radios been downgraded throughout the years, they got completely ruined with the latest update — the moodier, blander soundtrack of IV was merged with the much more energetic soundtrack of the Episodes, destroying (original) IV's dark tone.

If you have been holding out on buying the game for its technical problems, you'd be relieved to hear that all saves that ever existed for the game are now compatible (although you could do that with mods anyway) and achievements have been moved to Social Club/Steam. Additionally, Games for Windows Live is no longer present, but Rockstar Games Launcher is forced and, consequently, (the new, cut down) Social Club itself. And the multiplayer is gone.

However, if you're willing to do all the configuration and want to play the game, whether you've just discovered it or not, get it. Considering the game itself isn't a mess in both the technical and gameplay side of things, I give it a pass.

I'm not going to elaborate on downgrading in this review, however, previous versions were better in every way in terms of long term play.

The Game
In terms of the game itself, it is, obviously, a GTA title, having all properties of one. It's a game with a deep story about a Serbian war veteran, Niko Bellic, trying to accomplish the American dream in Liberty City. Parallel to that occur the events from the episodic DLCs, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, featuring events from the main game in a different perspective and giving insight into the lives and actions of Liberty City's biker gangs and nightclub management. Having a dark tone and a much more serious story than other GTA games, this game isn't for everyone, but I recommend it for its story, soundtrack and the many things you can do in the game.

What a spectacular sequel! Given the short length and simplicity of the first episode, this one was a surprise indeed.
Overall, it's a continuation and basically the same thing as Ep. 1 but with more content, a larger world, more dragons, more characters and, in return, more excellent voice actors (quantitatively) and lots more dialogue. Plus, things start to get exciting in this one.

It's an excellent tool that does exactly what you'd expect, and in terms of custom wallpaper tools, it's probably the most feature-rich of them all. Having Steam Workshop support and simply being on Steam allowed it to grow to such extents that someone has most likely already created your perfect wallpaper. And while you're at it, you may even create one yourself and publish it to the Workshop.

The only issue I have is that the tool gives off a "Now Playing" status if Steam is launched after Wallpaper Engine until exited manually. It also happens on the wallpaper selection screen as a side effect of accessing Steam Workshop. Still, even though the annoyances are major, this is by far the most relevant software on Steam and, thus, I give it a solid recommendation.

It's an excellent remaster and for relatively new players like myself, it almost didn't feel like it was based on an old game at all. This PC port has very few, if any flaws at all now. If the store description strikes any interest for you or you're an OG player, you will definitely enjoy the game.

I recommend the game for the unique gameplay and the fun I had. The story, however, was meh at best, I disliked it. The only character you go through the story with was very annoying and didn't serve any purpose. Still, the crystal slingshot was a very cool tool to use to travel through the mines and beyond, making the game worth the time.

It's a pretty short but sweet episode in a lovely point-and-click episodic indie series (with dragons!). This first one is only a short introduction you can even skip if you want to (a summary is shown in the beginning of Ep. 2), but if you don't mind spending about 3 additional euros, I recommend it nonetheless. After all, nothing beats gameplay, especially if it's good.

Bethesda: bugs are features

Gameplay: quests where you fight Skyrim's guards, civilians, animals, monsters and dragons and make use of items. Lydia is sworn to carry your burdens, so you can carry many. But not enough

Graphics: Illusion 100

Mods: ignoring the silly ones, you actually need to install mods to play the game properly

UI: just install mods, okay?

The twin-stick shooter I grew up with. It's probably the only one I'm willing to play while also enjoying it.

The 2014 remake, found here on Steam and GOG, is basically another mobile port released for PC. While the controls are not impacted, the GUI is a bit too bulky for me, but it's passable, because the remastered monsters look SO GOOD!

Plus, the original is also included in the package... Can it get any better?
