Renowned Explorers: International Society is a turn-based strategy adventure game made by Abbey Games.
If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end.

What is happening in the game:
You are a leader of an expedition and you try to be the most famous explorer of them all. The world is randomly generated and there are always numerous strategies and paths you can take to try to be in the best position possible.

  • Graphics | This game is really colourful and this is one of the biggest advantages of this game. The characters and the items look good and all the animations are amazing as well. I also like how well this game depicts different environments and attracts the player to the game with it.
  • Replayability | Expeditions are randomly generated, which means that your journey and your experience will be different every time you start a new game. Obviously, this contributes enormously to the replayability value of this game. It's not as replayable as The Binding of Isaac, for example, but it does get pretty close. Above all, you even unlock new things with each go, which means that the replayability even grows.
  • Characters | There are a lot of characters you can use on your journeys. They all have unique characteristics and they are all interesting to play with. Depending on your preferred style of playing (aggressive, peaceful ...), you can choose different characters that fit you the most. After playing a certain number of rounds with each character, you may also pick they as the captain of your expedition crew.
  • Exploring | Exploring is so fun in this game! There are always interesting decisions to make and uncovering secrets is always super fun.
  • Friendliness | This game is extremely friendly to new players. When you start playing, you are served with a lot of tutorials, in-depth explanations and as soon as you're done with those, there are rarely any things left that you wouldn't understand. You don't need to spend multiple hours learning what on Earth should you even be doing, instead, you can just enjoy the game itself.
  • Support | This game is still receiving a lot of support from the developer, including patches, added content and much more.
  • SteamOS + MacOS Support | You can explore and reach fame on all three major operating systems. You can't run it on your ironing board, though.

  • Luck-based Gameplay | How most actions end depends on your luck. You can help you chances by using characters with best skills for certain actions, but I think that luck still plays too big of a role. Sure, it's exciting to see the wheel spinning and waiting to see if you're in luck or not, but I guess more things should depend on player's skill.
  • Difficulty | I sometimes feel like some battles are a bit too hard, but I guess that improves later on when you get better. It's not a big issue.

The final verdict:
Overall, this game is extremely fun and good-looking. It has a lot of replayability value and, so you should be good for many hours. It's quite easy to start in this game as it has an excellent tutorial that teaches you everything you need to know to get started. Although I think that luck is too influential, it's not a major problem.
If you're looking for a fun exploration game, this is most certainly the game for you. If not for the full price, definitely consider buying it when it's discounted.
