FaceRig is a program which uses your webcam to transfer your face gestures to a character
If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end.

What can you do with this software:
As explained a bit higher, you can use FaceRig to control a virtual head. That head moves just like you move your head and it opens its mouth when you do. It's mostly used for entertainment purposes, but you can, for example, use it on a stream so you don't have to reveal your real face.

Pros:
  • Quality | I didn't know how else to say it, but this product is really good at what it does. If you give it all the conditions it needs (such as good webcam positioning), you will get extraordinarily good results. FaceRig actually moves the character's eyebrows when you move yours! Although there is a slight delay between your movements and what this program shows you, I can hardly imagine any other program doing a better job.
  • Characters | There is a ton of them and they are all very well modeled. You have Santa, a cat, Pewdiepie, an alien or even a burger, if that's what you're into. It's very fun observing how different characters react to the changes you make and it's not hard spending hours just talking to your screen and turning your head in every possible way. You may look a little weird, though, if someone comes by!
  • Recording and Streaming | FaceRig can record everything it shows you together with your voice. The recordings are of very high quality. If you want, you can also enable broadcasting, which lets you show your virtual characters on Twitch and even Skype! It requires some time to figure it out, but once you do, broadcasting is a matter of seconds.
  • Custom Environments | You have quite a few different backgrounds which you can use. Some characters also have a few different skins, in case you want everything to fit a certain theme.
  • Model Importing | You can also make your own models and import them to FaceRig. If you don't have the knowledge to do this, there is also Workshop support integrated if you ever feel like you don't have enough characters.
  • Options | There are so many things you can modify! You can change the face tracking and calibration behaviour, rendering quality, text overlays and many different things.

Cons:
  • Performance | Although the game runs fine on my computer, it may not run so well on others. When I start FaceRig I can hear how my computer can barely handle it. I mean, this is understandable since what this software does is quite amazing, but a few performance-related patches wouldn't hurt.
  • Linux and MacOS Support | FaceRig only works on Windows. There are plans for MacOS support, but that may take a very long time.
  • Tongue Movement | I know this sounds weird, but bare with me. When you talk or laugh, the tongue of the model sometimes appears very unnatural since it's not programmed to move. Adding this feature would help a lot towards making the characters behave even more like they're supposed to.

The final verdict:
FaceRig is very well made, there's no doubt about it. It's so very fun just talking to your camera and see how the virtual cat/dragon/raccoon/etc. responds to your movements. It just has a special charm. Although this program can be a bit of a resource hog, you should be fine since there are also a lot of setting that can boost the performance, but at a cost of lowering quality.
I can assure you that FaceRig is worth its price, but you do need to think carefully if you're sure that you need such a thing. It does bring some fun, but it's not particularly useful if you're not a streamer.

With love,
BirdCute
