World of Padman 1.6.2 is available for download as unified ZIP for Windows, Linux and MacOSX and as Windows installer. If you already have WoP installed, it is sufficient to download the patch release. The patch requires at least WoP 1.5 and must be unpacked directly into the existing installation directory, whereby the overwriting of some files is to be confirmed. The full release does not require an installed previous version of WoP. For Windows you can also use full version installer. In the meantime, we are also officially represented in the Snap Store[snapcraft.io], which should make our Linux users happy.

If you want to play a round of World of Padman now, you can directly visit our PadWorld server (168.119.185.219:27960) with the new version. The next Padday will be next week on Sunday, the second Advent, starting at 7:00 pm (CET), for which you should have the new version installed in any case. Yes, you have read correctly! World of Padman is now available for download in version 1.6.1 as a unified ZIP for the three operating systems Windows, Linux and MacOS. If you already have WoP installed, it is sufficient to download the 110 MB patch release. The patch requires at least WoP 1.5 and must be unpacked directly into the existing installation directory, whereby the overwriting of some files is to be confirmed. The current full release, on the other hand, costs just under 1 GByte and does not require an installed previous version of WoP. Since we don’t provide installers for the respective operating systems yet, you have to execute the appropriate start file, wop.x86_64.exe under Windows, wop-linux.x86_64 under Linux and wop-osx.x86_64 under MacOS, directly from the installation directory. Please note, existing desktop or menu shortcuts will not be updated automatically and therefore have to be adjusted manually if required.

Since the game content has not changed that much, we will not list all changes here. If you want to know exactly, please have a look at the file changelog.txt in the directory XTRAS. If you feel like playing a round of World of Padman now, you can directly visit our PadWorld server with the new version. Otherwise there will be our next Padday tomorrow, starting at 7:00 pm (CET), for which you should have the new version installed in any case.

Good morning PadWorld! After 6 weeks of intensive work we can now offer you the first beta of the upcoming version 1.6.1 of World of Padman for download. If you already have WoP version 1.5 or newer installed, you only need to download the 120MB patch. You can also download the 1GB full release if you want to start with a fresh new installation.

As already announced, this version is planned as a maintenance release to make WoP executable on all three operating systems again as quickly as possible. Since MacOS has not supported 32bit applications for a long time, WoP was not executable there until today. We have tried to update the codebase extensively and to fix most bugs, including many previously undiscovered ones (see changelog.txt in XTRAS). The most obvious ones are:

• Crash mostly on TrashMap and PadGarden
  
• FLOATER holdable does not emit sound
  
• Music playlist always starts with first song when changing map

In particular, however, we are having trouble reproducing the very annoying CTL bug, where the bots come to a stop and camp on the lolly spawn points after long periods of gameplay. We hope for your support and feedback here, as with all other bugs.

The now published beta version must be tested extensively by you. We will soon offer an appropriately marked beta test server and start open beta tests, also in the context of the monthly Padday. At the same time, this version remains compatible with older WoP 1.6 servers, so you do not need a parallel installation of the previous version.

Almost 10 years after the last patch and shortly after the 14th birthday of the WoP standalone, the core of the WoP team came together last night to discuss a further development of World of Padman, which was then decided. Yes, you read correctly, the development of World of Padman will be revived! The story continues!

The ball was set rolling when Martin Gerhardy, one of the developers of UFO: Alien Invasion[ufoai.org] contacted us and surprised us with fresh WoP binaries (64bit) for all three operating systems, i.e. Windows, Linux and MacOS, based on the latest version of ioquake3. Considering that version 1.6 of WoP runs on a now 10-year-old ioquake3 base, this would have been at the top of our to-do list for a new patch. We had almost forgotten that Martin wanted to support us with the 1.6 patch of WoP in 2011, but unfortunately the contact broke off at that time. So it’s great that we’re getting together again now.

Of course, we don’t want to keep you in suspense too much, but we also don’t want to reveal everything right away. Apart from clarifying organisational matters for the resumption of development, the WoP team has now decided on the following.

• First of all there will be a small but hopefully short term release of a version 1.6.1 for World of Padman. This will be a pure maintenance release, so there will be no new content, but bug fixes. The aim is to make WoP run on all operating systems again as quickly as possible. Since MacOS has not supported 32bit programs for a long time, WoP is no longer executable there.
  
• In the long term, a new version 1.7 is planned, in which there will also be new contents and features. Of course, we don’t want to tell you what these are yet. However, we will report on this at the right time.

In order to simplify the installation process in the future, the coming versions will again be available as a full release. This means that you will no longer need to install the full version of WoP 1.5 and patch it afterwards.

First of all, we wish you a BOOM-BOOM-tastic new year 2021. We hope you slipped over comfortably and calmly and had a nice time in the small circle. Maybe you also used the time to play a little bit World of Padman. You already had the opportunity to do so on the first Padday of this year. Also this year the Paddays will take place on the first Sunday of each month.

Now to the actual topic. We had already announced it via Discord[discord.worldofpadman.net] and also in our last Christmas greeting[worldofpadman.net]. On coming Sunday, January 17th, 2021, we will host a community event in cooperation with Haus Enten[haus-enten.de]. It is planned to lead a team of longtime Q3 players of the Haus Enten against a team from the [PAD]Community into the field. Only team game modes from World of Padman will be played, i.e. Spray Your Color, Big Balloon, Capture The Lolly etc. So inform yourself about it. You need World of Padman[worldofpadman.net] version 1.6 and probably ENTE’s PadPack with the maps PadCastle[worldofpadman.net] and PadGallery[worldofpadman.net]. It will start at 8 pm (CET) sharp. We will inform you about server and access data in time.

Even if the [PAD]Community seems to have a home advantage, you should not rest on it. There should be at least 4 vs. 4, but at best 8 vs. 8 players. According to the current status, there are already 5 registrations at the Haus Enten according to their forum. Also at the [PAD]Community there are still spots available. Please don’t be shy and contact us via Discord[discord.worldofpadman.net] in the channel #events or write us in the [PAD]Community forum on ModDB. It should not escalate into a hardcore clan fight, but a chilled event among friends!

Finally, we are planning a live stream in our Discord for those who can’t participate directly. Also, Adri{HUN} has agreed to edit your demos, if recorded by you, and publish them on YouTube. We think this is really great.
