For all those who have not yet noticed, also in 2020 we will meet at the PadDays to play World of Padman[worldofpadman.net] together. The PadDay was originally created as a weekly event by Aquarius, a dedicated member of the [PAD]community back in the days, after the release of World of Padman as a modification for Quake 3 Arena. It first took place on August 8th, 2004 at 8pm (CET). As things became a bit quieter in the years after the last release of World of Padman, this Sunday tradition slowly fell asleep.

Since January 7, 2018, however, we were able to establish the PadDay again, this time always on the first Sunday of the month from 7pm (CET). In the meantime, a wonderful [PAD]Community has been built up again, so we are happy to find a full server on these days. At the time of the PadMod, it was already considered a great success when 8 to 12 players came on the server. Now there are often more than 16 players, so sometimes the one or other map gets a bit cosy. After we first play a few rounds on our PadWorld server, towards the end of the evening many more players arrive on Hectic’s FunServer or Ben’s server and let the evening end on some community maps. If you want to take part, you should definitely activate the option “auto download ” in the game settings, so that the missing maps and player models can be automatically downloaded while connecting.

We are very happy about this positive development and hope that we can attract more new players to World of Padman in the future. By the way, our next PadDay will take place on February 2nd, 2020 at 7pm (CET). We are looking forward to it. A big thanks to all supporters and participants!

You may all have noticed that we put a number of World of Padman wallpapers back online this year. There is also a previously unreleased wallpaper available today. You can find them all on our various PadFiles page[worldofpadman.net] with a preview gallery for free download. We have linked them all for you below. All wallpapers were created by ENTE and DoomDragon and some packages contain a variety of different motifs. Most of them have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 5:4, starting from min. 1024 x 768 px up to max. 2048 x 1536 px.

World of Padman made it again into the Top 100 Indie Games on IndieDB in 2019 and we would like to thank you for that. After our unexpected success in 2018, we are very happy to be there again in 2019, because we last managed to do so in 2011. You can vote for us now, but due to the rules, we cannot achieve anything except a honourable mention.

To change this, we would have to do a major update for World of Padman. It is high time we did, but you cannot shake something like that up your sleeve, especially not after so many years. An important factor is of course the motivation and we get it through our [PAD]Community, which is still loyal to World of Padman and does not let us down. Maybe there will be something next year, when the PadMaps will be 20 years old.

Keep a stiff upper lip! Your WoP team

It took a while, but we have finally set up a public WoP Discord server (click to join!)[discord.gg] for the great [PAD]Community out there. In the age of mobile internet and instant messaging, this was really about time. After the good old PadForm could not be restored after our fatal web server crash in 2015, there seems not so much activity in the [PAD]Community forum on ModDB, but there is! Especially on the [PAD]Days, like last Sunday, we see again and again how active the community is in reality and today, after a good 15 years of World of Padman, we have a lot more players on these days than at the time of PadMod.

Today, the WoP standalone is 12 years old! Happy Birthday! World of Padman was originally released on June 18th, 2004 in version 1.0 as a modification for Quake 3 Arena. Just three years later, on April 1st, 2007, however, a stand-alone version with WoP 1.1 – Stand Alone Complex was released. World of Padman appeared for the first time as an independent game and the in Germany indexed Quake 3 Arena was no longer needed to play. For the WoP team, this date is therefore a very important milestone in the development of the game.

World of Padman got a lot of attention in the media right at that time, as can be seen on our media coverage[worldofpadman.net] page. We took the trouble to compile an overview of the known and essential articles, reports and mentions in chronological descending order. Of course, this list will not be complete, so we look forward to being alerted to missing posts. Also, for copyright reasons, we can not put all posts there online for viewing as we explicitly require the permission of the copyright holders.
