Possible good news, fellas
Hi, maybe it isnt too much, but we have a small possibility this game enters on steam in a near future thanks, partially, too me.

Why so? Well, meanwhile i was lurking in some studio sales, come to my attention that one company was selling a huge ammount of old video games, some of they old rts. This didnt impress me at first, but then i found out the shadow man, an old acclaim game. My brain immediattly linked it to machines, since both of them are from the same publisher.

Any case, i searched about the studio who was behind the publication of those old titles, its name is NIGHT DIVE STUDIOS. Basically they are a studio dedicated to bring old titles back to us. I send them an email asking if they know about machines and the possibility of bringing it to steam, and for my surprise they answered it.

Here a transcrition of those emails:

Me:

"Hi, I noticied your promo on steam and will buy some games (still making a catalog), i noticied you guys bought a lot of old titles and i should complement you for it, since its something that rarelly we see any company doing.

I got pretty surprised, thought, when i got my eyes in shadow man, "yeh, those guys are pretty badass".

Anyway, this bring me a ideia; did you guys know Machines - wired for war? Its a mix of RTS with first person shot. I knowed this game since i was kid because of a demo on Turok 2. The only explanation why this game hadnt become a classic, for me at least, its because the studio bankrupt. Just take a look and go see if it interests you to bring it back. I would get pretty happy to play its campaign mode on steam.

Sorry for any grammatical errors, english is not my native language."

Night Dive Studios:

"Greetings HSA,

Thanks for the kind words. I had never heard of that game before but it definitely looks interesting.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and thanks for the support!

Stephen"

As you can see, it was a short reply, however its brings a lot of hope. If those guys are capable of getting the rights of the shadow man it wont be hard to get of machines.

Furthermore, im not saying that you guys should flood their email entry asking them to put machines on steam, however i think some more emails supporting the game will be pretty good.

awesome. machines is one of the few games id be more than willing to pay for again and again.... and again.
DUDE

DO you know what this MIGHT mean?

Okay, let's say these guys actually go in on your request and decide to put this game on Steam, however slim those chances are.

But, in an ideal world, let's say they do. This might mean that Machines gets the attention it never got but always deserved. And the game might be old, but I think that people are really going to notice right away how innovative the game was for its time... I mean, name 2 modern RTS-es with 2/3 different camera modes? The ability to first-person your unit?

Ok, let's face it, the game does lack variation in that every faction has the same units. And the pathfinding, the atrocious pathfinding which sucked *donkey*balls. But that was just inherent in the game from the start. Can't do anything about that. But this is Machines we're talking about here...

Maaaan, I do hope this request will get through...

Well, i think they will put some effort on it, because night dive already bought the rights of anothers RTS who looks pretty silly (just check their game list on steam). IF the guys at least play the game they will notice they are dealing with a big deal. Machines is a nice game even for today standarts.

But, im afraid they will need a bit of pressure to make this happen, so thats why we need send emails to them praising the game. Its not to much; just say to them "hey just play machines, you will like it". If they see a lot of people doing this they will start to think about.

Hope however, they dont have problems trying get the rights of this game.

(just wondering what happened to the writters and game devs... they planned a machines 2)

I sent an e-mail, I'll post an update after I get a response.

If they acquire the rights they have all the right to sue the fuck out of the modding community though. No more free Machines discs for all

I hope that won't happen :)

There are mods for machines?
Overlord 31 Thg03, 2015 @ 1:25pm
Heck yeah. I'm making 'm as we speak. Check out Wiredforwar.org
HSA 31 Thg03, 2015 @ 3:09pm
In any case, i dont believe they would care about mods. I mean, never happened as far i know. In general sellers stimulate this pratic because make the game looks more attractive.

Just see sim city 4, it was made by EA (ok, maxis, and long ago, but you know what i mean), and was made to be moded.

Another possibilty would be if a nonprofit launched a crowdsourced campaign to purchase the rights and contract with a developer to produce the game.
HSA 1 Thg04, 2015 @ 3:11pm
Hmn, i doubt it would work. The game is good, but unknow. Also a plot isnt something that you can just hire a guy who wasnt involved in the game to do; we just dont know what the original producers were planning to the machines 2.

I mean, where are the humans? Why some planets have terrestrian vegetation if supposelly nothing life come from earth after so many time?

Maybe nothing of this matters if the producers didnt thought about back then, who knows.
sd70macsd70mac 2 Thg04, 2015 @ 10:10pm
As to the vegetation, my understanding was that the machines had everything with them needed to terraform livable planets to prepare them for the humans, as that was their original purpose.

I remember reading on TV Tropes [tvtropes.org], of all places, that there was in-game evidence that mankind was extinct, but the link to the evidence was dead. I haven't played enough of the campaign to find it myself yet. (The campaign is hard!)
