Questerium: Sinister Trinity HD

Questerium is a hidden object style of game with a bit of a twist. In this one you have live characters. I personally like the mad professor Gustav with his great laugh and small inch to inch walk. Funny!

You have to find objects from one area to another to help you progress within the story, as you would expect in that type of game. What I really like in Questerium is the challenging puzzles you encounter. This will get your brain going, let me tell you. If you have never tried this type of game and like puzzles, there is no better way to be initiated into this genre in my opinion. If you like hidden object games, this is a must to have in your game library.

When you start the game you can choose your level of difficulty from casual (with hints and skip) to professional (without hints and skip). I personally like the normal difficulty in this type of game. I rarely use the skip button but I must admit to using it from time to time in this one. Thank god!

Also, during your journey you will find some money which you can use to buy some items to develop your garden. I really like that. It is not much but it is an addition that makes this game better than others in the genre.

This game runs smoothly and has enjoyable graphics. The story is sound and the price is right. Well structure from start to finish.

Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders

First of all, I must say that I am not a fan of flight simulation at all. And there is only one reason for it, too hard to learn and play.

Saying this, I was quiet intrigued with this game just because it looks fun. Let me tell you I was spot on. You do not have to remember how to start an engine and all the rest. All you have to do is to push up the throttle and you get to the fight within a minute and shoot planes. “RIGHT NOW AT 3 O’CLOCK!”

All fighter planes from the era are well represented in this game. Graphically, this game could have been better but you can’t have everything. To be honest they are decent.

For the controls side of it, I think using the mouse and keyboard is about as weird as it sounds. It will take you a little time to master both setups anyway.

You can play as a single player and have 3 campaigns at your disposal (Pacific, Africa and Battle of Britain). You also have a survival, capture the flag, dogfight, team deathmatch and defend the base which can be played against the AI. Multiplayer mode is also available.

Positives:

SAVIORS

Saviors is a Space Shoot’Em up. Graphically the game is mediocre and to be honest should have look better in my opinion. Saying this, this game is extremely fun to play and offer several levels of difficulties from easy to insane and different modes of play.

In the story line, you can change the primary, side and secondary weapons and upgrade you spaceship too at the end of each level.

In terms of the soundtracks, it is ok.

If you are looking for a fun space Shoot’Em up, this game is great fun.

Clash of Puppets

Everyone has been in a B movie night marathon. I certainly have but I can’t remember what movies were featured. And then you fell asleep and a nightmare begun.

In this nightmare, you become the hero of one single B movie where you have to fight many known badies like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf man and others.

Armed at start with your Baseball bat, you have to hack and slash you way through to the next level.
But do not worry too much about weapons as you will get guns and traps along the way to help you in your nightmare.
Great graphics and the control works fine.

For $4.99, this game is worth every cent. This is fun and challenging. Maybe too much challenging at times.

Battle of Empires: 1914 -1918

Battle of Empires is very similar then Men of War series but in World War 1 era.

You have to complete all objectives to move further into each mission.

Nicely polished graphics and the game runs very well. All units and weapons of this era are well represented in this game.

As you would expect this type of strategy game is challenging and keeps you on your toes from early on, which is exactly what you want.

This game is currently on early access and after playing 1 hour and 30 minutes, I did not encounter any issues so far.
One little criticism; some of the unit actions like reloading artillery are just a little bit hard in my opinion. Bear in mind, I am comparing it with a game that works extremely well (Men of War: Assault 2). I guess a little tweak in that regards. I think the final version will be just fine.

Positive:

Verdun

A FPS based on World War 1. This game was first released with only 3 maps and only deathmatch mode last year. It was at that time fun even if you only had a US server available and your ping was up the roof. Since then, there have been several updates and I must admit this WW1 FPS is becoming in my view a classic.

Now we have different classes per army, more maps available and another mode where you have to attack and defend your position.

It is not easy to shoot a wave of enemies coming up to you using your bolt weapon but it is all about making your shoot count.

I really enjoy the atmosphere and the realism in this game, especially the trenches.

Positives

Tropico 5

This series is getting better with each sequel.

Of course you have to build and reach your objectives as usual but in Tropico 5 you have more options than before. From customizing your El Presidente, hiring manager to your building, finding technology and much more. Using the tutorial is actually a good idea to be honest.

But do not worry; you can actually set the level of difficulty easily.

Visually, this game is beautiful and run smoothly. The soundtrack is a pleasure to your ears as we would expect from this franchise.

My only criticism is with the control, I am wondering why the gamepad is the primary control. To me this type of game is so much better with your keyboard and mouse. Saying this, you can play with the keyboard and mouse but it is not smooth in my opinion.

This game is very well presented, great audio (Fabulous) and easy to play but challenging.

You must help Sophia Take! She can’t do it without you.

This game also have achievements and trading cards.

The Blue Flamingo

This is a nice top- down arcade shoot em up game!

You are in command of this interesting design craft that shoot bullets, missiles and bombs to destroy your foes. But be very careful and destroy or avoid touching any enemies as your flying vehicle take quiet a fair bit of damage every time you get hit by a projectile or by touching the enemy craft. After all, you only have one craft.

Every time you destroy an enemy you get points and $$ or a coin (seems to have more value) if you actually manage to destroy a wave of enemies before disappearing out of the screen.

At the end of the level you can upgrade your bullets or booms with the money you earn.
I really like the feel of the sceneries and the game fluidity. Well executed and nicely polished. And for $4.99, how can you go wrong?

One slight downside is perhaps the gamepad sensitivity (it is maybe an issue with my Logitech gamepad) but you get use to it fairly quickly.

Positives:

Negatives:

• No achievements

This War of Mine

You start with three (3) people in your hideout in a middle of a war and you have to survive!

You usually have a runner, a cook and a scavenger (sometime you could start with a female character instead of the scavenger, but she is good in trading).

During the day, you build equipments, tools and others. During the night you go scavenging to collect items like foods, wood, weapons or other materials.

Visually, it is well done and you get the atmosphere of being in a war zone. To be honest, at first it remind me of Deadlight (how it looks) but without the Zombies.

You really need to look after you people in this one to be able to go to the next day. Making the wrong choice or not getting food can get you characters depressed or even broken.

I only played 3 hours and will definitely play it again.

Positive:

• Good concept (War zone) / No zombies
• Visually polished and run smoothly
• Plenty things to do

Negative:

• A bit repetitive

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Vampires: Guide them to Safety!

This is a fantastic puzzle game where you have to get your vampire (s) to their crypts before the sun rise.
This is quite a challenging game; you need to rotate specific blocks so your vampire (s) can get to their destinations in one piece. But beware, you have Vampires can only turn right or left and others will be happy to go straight ahead. It can become quite tricky when you have to save 5 vampires on the same level.

Hardcore gamer or not, you will have fun with this one and for $4.99 it is a great pastime.

The positives:

- Great game atmosphere (music, sound effects)
- Easy to learn
- 9 levels with 8 sub-levels
- 32 achievements to unlock
- Only $4.99
- Downloadable content

The Negative:

- Can be frustrating in some levels

Overall, you must help those vampires to safety or you will have blood on your hands! A great game to have in your library.

LEGO® Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game

That was my first go at a Lego game! And to be honest I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You have to collect the Lego coins to become a true pirate at the end of each level’s but also do not forget to collect other important items.

I personally did not have issue with the game freezing or not saving (the game save automatically at the end of each level).

The Positive:

• Plenty of characters to unlock
• Good replay ability
• Great cut scenes with good humour
• Nice levels

The Negative:

• Very short game in story mode (I finished under 4 hours)

Overall, it’s a fun and easy game to play. And if you like me, you will probably be hooked and rush to buy other games from the franchise.

OMG Zombies!!!

OMG Zombies!!! LOL!! What a fun game to play. What you have to do is to shoot Zombies to create a chain reaction and kill all the OMG Zombies per level.

You start with 3 bullets (but do not worry, you will soon get up to 5 bullets), watch their movement and shoot and create that chain reaction.

The first couple of levels are quite simple but soon you are very thankfull to be able to upgrade your weapon (increase bullet, more damage per bullet and more range)and OMG Zombies Too.
Your objective is to get a platinum medal in each levels (bloody hard when you keep moving forward) and you will need upgrade to reach it!

For the price, it is a great and entertaining game... OMG Zombies coming to get me! Where did I put this 5 bullets gun?

Alien: Isolation

Alien fans, you will be in heaven... Well, actually stuck in a space station with humans (how boring), synthetic androids (bloody hard to kill) and your one and unique little black pet with his/her double extendable set of teeth and a very sharp and pointy tail.

This game is seriously creepy from the start and really true to the Alien movie franchise, especially the first one. I personally like the 1980 monitors on the space station.

You play Amanda Ripley and your quest is to find out what happened to your mother. You will end up on a station call Sevastopol, where your trouble will begin.

Essentially, this is more a stealth type of game rather than action (shooting) and make sure you know where you can hide. You will eventually find a gun but the ammunitions do not come in abundance, so really look after them. During your journey, you will be able to collect items like scraps, ethanol, sensors etc. With it you will be able to craft well needed objects like Molotov, Pipe bomb, Noise maker, Medipack and others.

Great graphics, splendid audio which empower the fabulous and scary atmosphere. The hairs on my back stood up more than once.

Resident Evil / biohazard HD REMASTERED

To be honest this is my first attempt with a Resident Evil game.

After choosing my fabulous level of difficulty (like taking a walk) and my character (either Chris or Jill), I was indulged with a great introduction video outlining the beginning of the story. I was especially taken by surprise with the Doberman Zombies. What a beautiful type of dog, they really put you at ease straight away. Then you arrive in a dark, intriguing mansion.

As you can tell, this game is a survival / horror type of game. What you have to do is find useful items to lead you to the next stage of the story. And yes, you do have a bit of fighting in it. My first encounter with a zombie was memorable for him as my so-called rubber knife (combat knife) was not the greatest weapon for me. I settled for a KO in my first fight. Evil resident all right! Anyway, you will find a gun really early in the game.

When you find a typewriter, which is where you can save your progress, I would suggest you do so. But make sure you have ink in your inventory to be able to save.

One thing I had a bit of difficulty getting used to was the camera changing angles quiet a lot and you have to keep readjusting the direction your character is walking /running. But I guess this game was originally release for console. Do not worry too much about it you’ll get use to it.

In terms of the controls, they are easy to master.

The graphics are sounds and the atmosphere is dark enough to keep you on your toes.
