Status of SteamVR for SteamOS
I note that the SteamVR Performance Test is windows only. I want to purchase a vive but I only run SteamOS (and Ubuntu). Does anyone know what the deal is with SteamOS support for SteamVR? Any officialy anouncments, ETA etc.

Yeah, kind of strange it's not available on SteamOS. I would imagine it's only a matter of time... Valve Time that is

There are currently no VR headsets available for purchase which support SteamOS. Both Occulus and Valve only list Windows support on their store page.

+1, I've been searching all over the place for information regarding the status of Steam OS support. Should definitely be a first-class citizen for Valve.

We are working on it but it's not ready yet.

Thanks jvert! I'm gonna make a post to the subreddit as there are some very curious people. It's currently being discussed at http://reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/48bliw/vive_preorder_has_started_what_is_the_best_vr

In other words, Don't hold your breath.

No offence here, but you guys are slower than the second coming of Christ

If you want people to start using SteamOS, wouldn't it make more sense to develop everything for SteamOS first? I understand there's more users/money with Windows but wouldn't SteamOS getting first priority give people the nudge you want to use your product? Honestly, if I worked on any of the Steam Machines, I wouldn't be too happy about SteamOS always having to sit at the back of the bus

You and I, as Linux/SteamOS fans will buy. But will every or even half the Windows fanboys switch? Or will they use it as an excuse to ditch Steam and use competitor hardware that works on their setup? I know what most my Windows friends will do, and they're not coming to our camp just yet. I really wish we had it as well but I can understand Valve's priorities.

Thanks for the update, hope its not too long.

People don't switch, they buy new computers after a few year. If there is Windows on it, they will continue with Windows. If there is SteamOS on it, they will use SteamOS if they don't have too much migration pain.

Awesome news! I already ordered a Vive and was a bit worried the Linux client was being left behind.

Yea, I made one in General before realising it should be in here. I have deleted it, appologies to the couple of people who responded there.
