Message notification for update appeared, but no luck after several reboots.
Went to desktop to 'apt-get update' steampowered repo manually.
After logging back to steam user, another reboot, nailing the hell out of the 'Check for SteamOS updates' button a few times and another reboot - SUCCESS!
However, even though system settings shows 2.95, I am still getting a 'Restart to Update SteamOS' notification.
Second 2.95 reboot; Third reboot - update notification still appears.
Clicked the 'Check for SteamOS updates' button again. Reboot. Appeared to work, but now it's back.
Update notification is looking like a permanent feature.
Will report back any change.
there appears to be a bug in steamos, just introduced a few days ago, when using the steam controller by cable. if you use it wireless, with the dongle, there is no issue.
I've seen this behavior for a long time. Usually, you can temporarily fix it until the next update by going to the desktop and running 'sudo apt update' to fix any non-steam packages that have pending updates. I think the restart-to-update from the steam menu does nothing because the pending updates are from other non-steam related packages.
Am I the only one who can't buy games on SteamOS? Is it on purpose if my basket is always empty, no matter what game I try to add?
It depends of what you call "temporary"? A couple of months is still considered temporary? Lol!
Or if you use the steam beta (not steamos beta which this thread is about :-) ) opt out and try again
