And I think it would be pretty awesome to own a Linux games machine to mess around on! Which would actually work and be supported! I've tried to go about having a Linux gaming platform in the past, before Steam made some games compatible with Linux, and failed in epic proportions. I was forced to run back to Windows (sorry that I doubted you Windows).

If PC games were natively supported on Linux, the OS's popularity would improve no doubt, and so would general people's knowledge of the OS. I think this can only be a good thing! Linux is open source and if they pulled away some of Microsoft's users there could be lots of interesting things to come from both the Microsoft and Linux world for us the user.

I do like the idea of people being able to go and pickup a steam machine from the shops, but the Linux OS its built upon is limited as to which games it can run. Which means that either:

1. All games on released on Steam in the not too distant future will all have native support for Linux!

2. Or the Steam machine will fail because big publishers and big games might not develop for Linux so the Steam machine will fail!

I would personally like to see games being developed for the 'PC' not just available on Windows! Because really a PC incorporates Windows, Linux, and MAC by definition!

You know, these Steam Machines are really pricey. For people who don't have quite as much money as we would like, getting any of these, even the relatively cheap $500 one, would prove quite difficult.
