Thumbs up! No Save is a deal breaker! Bann on those games!:steamfacepalm:

Similarly, I don't have all the time in the world to play, though it is admittedly easier for me now that my wife games herself. For sometime she didn't play games at all, though she had other hobbies but didn't understand what I saw in games. Then one of her friends showed her Elder Scrolls Online and she jumped right in, which in turn allowed her to bridge the gap of understanding for my enjoyment of video games. This in turn allows us to determine our time between gaming/hobbies and each other.

This is pretty much why I don't enjoy multiplayer and online games. Being able to save or even pause the game is crucial.

I think if i had the time to spend playing even half the games i own, i probably would not have bought the other half - the frustrated i get about not being able to have hte time to play all the games i have, i try to make upw ith by buying more and still i have the insane desire to play all the old games from oldest to newest
Currently i have stepped back to spend time playing F15 Strike Eagle 1 and Falcon 1 both are fast and fun once you get the dosbox settings right.
Finally playing F15 SE 1 on dos, i can confirm that the Gameboy port i played in 1993 was pretty damn good version of it

but more to the point, yes i also dont have the time to spend 10 hours learning how to turn on the hud or taxi a fighter jet to the runway, which is annoying because i really want to play Falcon BMS
I dont know what my settings are for DCS at the moment, but i am happy that when i go to play an instnat mission i can just start on the runway and take off is about as complex as a microprose 90s sim, - everything else seems complex enough for my tastes, though i do also like what SF series do. I dont have SF2 but have WOE with the operation desert storm total mod flying tornados is my favoirtie thing even if its more simplified than say DI's Tornado
For me, it isn't just a matter of respecting my time, but also a case of breaking immersion. There are times when I want a challenge in games and part of that is having to re-do a mission due to failure.

This is why I really wish the FS2Open folks would add mid-mission checkpoints to the engine. There are some fantastic fan-made missions for that engine but nothing kills my immersion faster than having to wait for the requisite 2-5 minutes at the beginning of a mission for the dialog to progress and events to trigger every time I restart.

ESO is a great one because none of the quests are too long and you can stop whenever.

Don't blame you there. The only online games I play are ones where one can play solo successfully.

The Desert Storm mod for SF2 is also amazing.

I could not agree more.

It's more than just "life interfering" that stops me playing a game. I want to be able to quit playing on a whim, and not lose progress. ITS A GAME. There is no moral obligation to keep playing.

I have enough obligations in my real life. When I play a single player game I want to be a capricious tyrant. The computer, and the game, are here to serve me, not the other way around. Everywhere else in my life I have to be considerate and compromise. But in my gaming room, playing a single player game, I am the master, lord and dictator. If I want to quit and do something else then the only response I want from the game is "Sir! Yes Sir!"

A couple of example offenders that come to mind:
Dawn of War 2 single player missions. Great game, but don't make me finish the mission before I can save.
Borderlands 1 DLC missions. Some of the checkpoints were so far apart it was infuriating. I still haven't forgiven that franchise.

If I want to quit playing a game, but I'm forced to keep playing to avoid losing significant progress, that game is dead to me. I quit and never look back. My backlog is too long to waste my time replaying content I'm bored with.

Well said buddy.

I recall listening to the Terese Brother podcasts and how they kept on defending only their miniscule/miserly save systems in their games! (I rage quit Heroes of Steel RPG after hundreds of hours of playing because where it was saved) . Then low and behold in the second podcast on Star Traders Frontier game they became enlightened. "We added a system of save slots, wanted to keep going rogue like, why did we resist, we are very glad we did it". Then I also want a game log, current quests and history of progress. I need the latter so when I come back to the game, i can get caught up. My game time can have gaps between plays.
BrianRubin 23 okt, 2019 @ 8:44
Oh that would be great. Like "Here's a rundown of what you did and what happened last time you played." Brilliant.
