Great news for all fans of classic computers and the Metroidvania genre! Indie developers have finally lifted the veil of secrecy on their ambitious, long-in-the-making project for the Amiga 1200—a game called Cyber-Rogue.

The project had been in development for nearly three years, and many had already begun to think it would join the graveyard of abandoned retro games. But the developers not only confirmed that the game will be released on physical floppy disks later this year, but also rolled out a massive demo version. You can run it on actual hardware or via emulators.

Cyber-Rogue features a vast, interconnected world, smooth 60 FPS animation (which, for Amiga hardware, is truly impressive!), and a stunning soundtrack composed using classic trackers. The developers promise over 10 hours of gameplay, plenty of upgrades for the main character, and hardcore bosses. If you’ve been missing that old-school vibe and Super Metroid-style exploration, this is definitely worth checking out.

A key for the first Half-Life was activated on Steam 27 years later

A Reddit user received an original CD of a '90s shooter as a gift and, out of curiosity, entered the code from the box into Steam. The platform accepted the key without any issues and added the digital version of the game to the account. As it turns out, most official Steam keys (unless they are temporary press copies) simply have no expiration date.

Half-Life sold at auction for nearly $14,000

A copy of Half-Life was recently sold at the Goldin auction. The lot sold for $13,725; bidders placed a total of 70 bids, with the auction starting last month at $100.

As a result, Half-Life set a new record: no other PC game had ever before been sold at auction for such a sum. It is a sealed copy, which has been rated ‘85+’ by the Video Game Authority.

A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. from 1985 set a historic record at auction: the most expensive video game of all time

On 12 June, a copy of the 1985 NES version of *Super Mario Bros.* was put up for auction at Heritage Auctions’ Video Games Signature auction and sold for $3 million — the highest price ever paid for a video game at a public auction.

The record has been broken by $1 million — the previous record of $2 million was set in 2021 for another copy of the same game. By way of comparison: in July 2020, Heritage set a record for video games for the first time, selling another copy of Super Mario Bros. for $114,000. Over the past six years, the price has risen 26-fold.
