Steam Controller + BigPictureMode + Exiting Origin Client - .Bat solution / workaround.
Firstly, im new to Steam discussions - apologies if i slap this up in the incorrect location or i've commited akin to sacrificing a goat on your new rug by posting where and how this is.

I've just estblished a nifty workaround/solution and figured i'd share it.

Origin Games launching from Steam requiring manual closing of the nasty Origin Client after each use to enable Steam Controller to pass through to the next one.
Dangit Bobby there has to be an easier way

I hit up ol' Google. Various articles indicate using compatibility modes for certain Origin client functions. Manually closing the client after each use. etc. etc.

Couldn't locate a solution i was comfy with.
If i couldnt have "automated" per'sey such as Origin having some form of "Be nice and close after exiting a game launched by Origin".
Next best bet : I wanted to be able to "Launch" a command from from Big Picture Mode to enable exiting Origin, which i would then run after playing an origin game.

Below is the solution/workaround i've fiddled around and established:

  1. Open Notepad, create and save a .bat script for the following command "taskkill /IM origin.exe /F"

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=912851369

  2. Within Steam go to "Add a non-steam game"
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=912851463

  3. Manually browse to and select the Origin executeable from the Origin directory (any .exe will likely suffice).

  4. Locate the file in Steam Library, right click on it and access properties.

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=912851838

  5. Rename to "Origin Exit" and change target to point to the .bat script. Example: "D:\Origin\Exit Origin.bat"
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=912851962

  6. Start up Origin, go to Big Picture Mode, run the script. Make sure it worked.

Note: It is early days, i only established this method this arvo, yet to find out if it causes issues.

Feel free to give it a whirl and see if it assists with your own predicaments.

Essentially, could be used for running other system-maintenance style .bat scripts i guess. Few articles i found also advised .bat scripts were not possible to run via steam.
This seems to prove that whilst cant directly add a .bat file, can however modify a .exe shortcut to run the .bat file.

I know this is a bit late... I've been playing around with this myself, there is some bat to exe converts around, which works fine, just remember to keep a copy of the original bat file...

I got an idea for how to fix this, though.. It takes some time to do, and I haven't yet learned enough about APP programming to do this, but you could essentially make a program, where you open it with a launch code of some kind, to tell it which game you wants to play on Origin, it could then regularly check if the game's still running, if it isn't, it could close origin as well...
If anybody knows how to do it, it would be great!

I've managed to do that.

I tried your work around for closing Origin when a game is open and it still closes the game when the .bat file is run. Am I doing it wrong? I get a pop up that essentially says SWBF2 is closing because Origin is closed, which is exactly what happens when I close Origin manually. Ah, this is maddening. All I want to do is play the game via my link with an Xbox 360 controller. I've spent countless hours playing with various work arounds with zero luck. =(
