[Monthly Theme] March - Hooked
Private giveaways for this month's theme
*removed*
*removed*
*removed* (contributed by Daerphen, fits April's theme)
Important: Do not share these links outside of the group. If you want to enter, do so now and don't bookmark the links for later. All entries that were made 24 hours after posting the announcement and that did not go through SGTools later will be reported and such winners may be rerolled. You might also get kicked from the group.

orignal post
Welcome to our first theme month! I'll explain the event before getting into this month's specifics :) (sorry in advance for the wall of text, I'll try to format it a bit more in the next few days)

Every month, we will post a theme thread and pin it for the duration that month. During the month, you are encouraged to focus on finishing games fitting the current theme. You are free to interpret the theme as broadly as you like, or to ignore it and just play other games, or both.
If you decide to participate in the event, please post all your finished games relating to the theme as a reply to this thread (preferably in one round-up post at the end of the month). If the game seems somewhat far from the theme, please explain the connection in a few words.

Aside from having a little bit of guidance on where to go next in your backlog, we will also post a giveaway on Steamgifts after each month is over. But here's the twist: It won't be group-exclusive. Instead, it will be an invite-only GA. The link will be posted in this thread for 24 hours for everyone in the group (around the 1st or 2nd of the next month), and after that it will be locked behind SGTools and posted on SG for everyone, but with limited entries.

How limited, you ask?
For every completed Steam game that fits the theme and was completed and mainly played within the corresponding month (date of achievements or time played in the last 2 weeks if there are no achievements - post early if you mainly played within the first 2-3 weeks of the month), we will add one entry to the SGTools limit. That means with every game you completed, you unlocked an extra chance for someone on SG to enter said GA.

Example:

- Theme for February: Love
- Thread is opened with the theme, you reply with links to the achievement pages of games you played that month that fit the theme.
- Completed games fitting the theme: 14 (by 5 members?)
- GA for Hatoful Boyfriend created on March 1 and posted here for one day, then in a thread on SG, only accessible via SGTools, limited to 14 entries.

And since I know a lot of you aren't necessarily here to win new games, there's another prize:
Whoever played the most theme-related games that month (=unlocked the most entries for the GA), is player of the week for the next month (we may add another way to become player of the month, so that might get cut to 2-3 weeks)

Okay, let's get to it.
This month's theme: Hooked
Any games with hooks or that you are addicted to/people say you get addicted to or that are about addiction are fine (or any other interpretations you can think of - music games?)

Feel free to also suggest games here, even if you're not participating, and of course let me know if anything need clarification (it's 2 am and I want to go to bed :apafrog:)

Have fun!

You mean suggest games for others to play right? Well to take it literally, here are some game suggestions!

I believe these are all games that use a Grappling Hook:
Mark of the Ninja
Umihara Kawase
A Story About My Uncle
Trine
Just Cause
Dying Light
Darksiders
Batman
Tomb Raider
Assassin's Creed Syndicate
Star Wars Jedi Academy
Terraria
Lost Planet
Worms Armageddon
Far Cry 4
Bionic Commando
Bioshock Infinite
Nice! My agenda clashes this month as completing Borderlands is taking priority, but I should be back next month :-)
Whoa, awesome idea :D Teakupo, thanks for the list :D I may try to play A Story About My Uncle again, but last time I tried I rage-quitted, so I don't know if I'll manage to finish it D: So maybe I should play Trine or Dying Light (but it takes a really long time for me to download this one) instead.

The puzzle game Hook also fits the theme pretty well, it's a pity I already finished it :P
Maybe games about pirates, because Captain Hook from ? I'll try to find a completable one for myself that fits the criteria :)

Yes, that is exactly what I meant, thanks for the suggestions! :D
Metroidvania games are also good for hooks -- literally and, as far as I'm concerned, in the addiction sense ... and if you want 3D, Devil May Cry and the Castlevania: Lords of Shadows games spring to mind. Too bad I already beat those ... I'd be tempted to use this as an excuse to 100% them, but then again, I have other games from Teakupo's list to start with :)
I can also add these games as suggestion. Many of them require a lot of time to 100%, but maybe some of you already completed big (or not big) parts of them :)

Awesomenauts (has characters with hooks)
Binding of Isaac series (because very addictive)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (look at how many people play it, definitely addictive)
Goat Simulator (if tongue is the hook)
Left 4 Dead series (if tongue is the hook)
The LEGO Movie (I think, it has hooks if it has batman...)
Lost Planet series (addiction to thermal energy in game)
Outlast (protagonist is surely addicted to journalism if he goes inside...)
Sid Meier's Civilization V (no comments)
Worms series

If to count survival game as hooked from various resources, then I would pick out also:
Metro series
Sunless Sea
The Long Dark

I am thinking about add XCOM + Enemy Unknown after to finish all fallout 3 dlcs. In this game, there is a armor with hook (snipers flying to the roofs :) ) then, this game could count it? and one doubt more, do we need complete the game with 100% Achieve or only finished the game?
What a shame I already finished Trine 2 ;(
Anyway, I can add some games that came in mind about this theme

  • Assassin's Creed Revelation - 'cause of Ezio's hook-blade
  • Trine 1 and 2
  • Batman series
  • Darksiders 1 and 2
  • Castlevania games: I still have to play Lords of Shadow 2
  • Bioshock Infinite whitout doubts
  • Half-life (that crowbar count as a hook?)

Anyway, probably there are more games, but nothing came in my mind now.
Have to say: I really loved this idea!!

That's up to your criteria, you call the shots on your backlog! I rarely go for 100% cheevos, my time is too valuable. So for me it's always to finish the main story missions, then I'm done.

Sure, that can count :) And like Per3zat said, "completed" is up to you. For this event in particular I will check if the achievement for "Main story/campaign completed" was attained this month, or, if there is no such achievement, whether a good deal of other achievements have this month's date or the game got lots of play time from you, relative to the actually possible time - for example, you'd only need 1-2 hours for Gomo, which has no achievements, so that amount of time is sufficient, but for something like Dota 2 I'd expect more to count as "complete"/"sufficiently experienced" ;) (couldn't think of another "endless" game with no achievements right now ^^). Btw, Gomo could actually count, he sort of has hooks for hands and pulls himself up on them ^^
(this part is more explanation for everybody:) If you plan to finish a game without achievements/did it already this month and want to enter it for the event, please let me know early enough so I can see your play time for the last 2 weeks.

Thanks for the extra suggestions, Douglas! I'd say if you use the crowbar like a hook (pull yourself up on it or something), Half-life counts :)

Also, I'm glad to see you guys like the idea :3

Good idea, then I can use The Secret of Monkey Island for it :D And now I noticed there is a hook in the first screenshot I made! :D http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=636447275
Well, Fallout: New Vegas comes to mind, since I'm playing it at the moment. It's a great game and super addicting as I played 5 hours today and didn't even notice. Also, protagonist can get addicted/ hooked on drugs. So, that counts, right? :P

I'd almost say it counts double then, but only one count per game ;)
Well, I was feeling pretty sad because the games that I knew involved hooks in any fashion I also knew that I wouldn't be able to finish this month. So, despairing yet determined to persevere in my internecine war against the seemingly immortal Backlog, I braced myself and marched resolutely into the next game on my list, a hidden object game, Left in the Dark: No One on Board.

And guess what! You're chased the whole game by - you guessed it - a guy with a hook for a hand. Thank you hook-handed guy. You made my day.

Thank you for reading my story, fellow assassins of the backloggish variety. I wish you well.
