Its just online.
This behaviour is normal and expected.
Before the big update it worked perfectly fine. After the update something changed. Makes no sense to be able to upload to the cloud if deleting the local version through the manager deletes the cloud upload too. Defeats the whole purpose of the cloud. It at least needs separate options for deleting locally or uploaded cloud pictures. Or just change it to how it worked before.
Ive uploaded thousands of screenies over the years, you used to be able to select all in any folder and delete and it would only delete the local files. Now it deletes everything - without warning.
Wish I found out on a smaller scale. However, I just finished AC Valhalla which I played on and off over the last ~2 years (coz the game is stupidly big), went and uploaded maybe 30 screenies out of several hundred, job done, hit delete as usual.... except this time everything is gone.
Before the update you could delete a local screenshot in steam and the uploaded screenshot would still be there on steams servers.
Now you have to manually delete local screenshots in windows yourself which results in a black error image when you browse screenshots in Steam, because Steam still thinks the image is there.
I really hope they fix this.
♥♥♥♥ pisses me off tremendously I just want my screenshots back and the fact that they pushed out a broken BETA screenshot manager is not good.
People upload screenshots, they dont sync in either direction.
For people concerned about accidental deletions, keep a duplicate copy of your screenshots as lossless png/avif and manage it locally if need be at any point, like to upload a far higher quality version to an image hosting service (steam generates and uploads strongly compressed trash-tier jpegs using an inefficient library).
This. OR at the very least, make it a setting so that we can opt-in to this is exactly what it does. I don't want files I've uploaded to Steam taking up local storage as well. That's just nonsense.
