Slow transfer speeds Steam Local Network Game Transfers
What would be a good way of debugging slow speeds with the new transfer feature?
I'm capped at around 30 MB/s - if I cancel the transfer and proceed with a regular download, I get my usual 60-80 MB/s.

(This was tested on the Deck transferring from a Windows machine connected to 2.5GbE network.

I assume this was a wired connection. There are performance issues we are looking into where the server host isn't utilized as much as expected.

Hey Martinoo, yeah the Host PC is wired

I can't get it to work at all. Still goes to internet to download.

EDIT: I deleted/reinstalled steam on main pc, it appears to be working now, pulling off lilpc in bedroom.

Hmmmm, one thing I'd check too is to see what the wifi on the deck looks like. It's hard to tell sometimes depending on how the router is setup as well, but 2.4 ghz wifi vs. 5ghz can be a real game changer depending on the situation.

2.4Ghz is what it's been on for ages, but 5ghz is more recent and has more 'channels' on it to broadcast on. Problem with 2.4, is it only has a handful of channels, a few more in some countries than others but there's like 10-15 give or take, and if there's too many devices nearby clogging all the channels up it causes some gnarly interference slowing everything down.

I was amazed a few years ago when I got my first 5Ghz router and suddenly my tablet's awful wifi connectivity was gone in a flash, because, well, less devices are supporting 5Ghz, more now than then, but 5Ghz has WAAAAAY more channels available than 2.4 as well, so there's less networks trying to overlap.

Personally I'm near a school, and I don't know how many routers are truly in there as they're mostly on the same SSID, but the amount of routers competing with bandwidth on the 2.4Ghz channels is nutty compared to the 5Ghz, so if the deck's wifi happens to be connecting on 2.4, might see if 5 is better.

(Coincidentally, also a good thing to try if your Steam Link performance is completely useless on wifi normally)

Should've mentioned, my Deck was during testing on a 5 Ghz network, roughly 3 meters away from the access point.

Ahh interesting that is a shame, wonder why that would be so slow hm. Hopefully Valve figures that out

I have same anomaly. PC on wired. Wifi 6 5G (Amplify). Both clients beta. Getting 15M max on local transfer, when from internet its 58M. What’s causing it? Some settings, antivirus, firewalls?

I do think its maybe Steam Deck or just Wifi related now.
My 2nd machine also on LAN, gets full speed.

That's weird. Something wrong with the Deck? Because I also got low speeds in another network and a laptop (Alienware), same Deck.

I was getting 30Mbit/s too when transferring. I checked the 2.5GbE Realtek USB on Info Center/USB Devices, and it shows connected at 480 Mbps, so it's being seen as a USB2.0 device.

The xHCI Host Controller shows as USB 2.0, with a product ID of 0x0002 (2.0 root hub)

I was getting 13 MB/s transferring over my wired LAN in gaming mode - 13 MB/s is my standard internet speed. When I switched to Desktop mode - transfer speed increased 4-fold. Clearly Valve release this feature before fully testing it. I should be getting closer to 100 MB/s transferring over my wired AX1500 router. This is definitely not a problem of bad cables as I have performed loop back tests to rule them out.

Any update on this? I’m getting around 10mb/s I figured it would be faster then that. Has anyone contacted @support?

Same issue here. iperf3 (a network performance tester) shows ~30mb/s between desktop and Deck (both are on wifi 6, so this speed is expected) however network transfers between them don't generally go above 10mb/s.

Steam LAN transfer is not for yours comfortability, but for save bandwidth on Steam servers to cut costs. They do not care how it works, if it works.
