Special K - v 0.7.66 [GUI] - (4/27/17)
0.7.5: Fixes Command Console in Skyrim Special Edition and Introduces UI Init Delay
  • Skyrim Special Edition creates a Raw Input keyboard device with flags set to block legacy Win32 API input processing, I have opted to remove that flag so that I can handle keyboard input the normal way. This should not cause any negative effects aside from Alt + F4 no longer being blocked by the game.
  • Added an init delay (1 frame) to CEGUI in order to prevent creating resources on fake render contexts (i.e. ones created by the Steam overlay)

0.7.4: Removed RTSS Support Forever
  • OSD is now rendered using CEGUI, which means the CEGUI subdirectory is necessary to see the OSD for any localized Special K install (e.g. dxgi.dll, d3d9.dll, OpenGL32.dll in game's directory)
  • OSD settings are now global, and stored in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Global\osd.ini
  • OSD font scaling is now a floating-point (x.y) number, and represents (100% x Scale)
  • OSD position (x/y) is specified in pixels from the top-left corner (positive values), or from the bottom-right (negative values)
  • OSD color takes an RGB triplet: (-1,-1,-1) = Yellow (Special Case)
  • Moved the GPU temperature preference (Celsius / Fahrenheit) out of SpecialK.ini and into Global\osd.ini
  • Moved the Steam Achievements ini file to Global\achievements.ini

Is the Nier patch out yet? The one with the fixed lighting

@Ice | ColdSphinx,

Sorry I was a bit of a jerk for not including that info!

So have a few issues/questions I could use a hand with..
1) Cannot get Memory usage above 3.5gb`.
Did a PC upgrade, reinstalled SpecialK using the installer. (Version=0.7.37)
I've tweaked the SpecialK.ini under the FO4 mod folder 100 ways and can't get it higher.
It does report Fallout4 "Works" v0.3.5 on the overlay (So posting here) but there is not the ini in the Fallout folder(Game)

2) Cannot Get CPU Usage above 5%
Adjusted FO4 to be "High" but CPU usage is low, GPU usage won't go above 50%.

3) Cannot get the F4SE.dll hooks to work mentioned a page back....

All this together makes me think I'm missing a key ini file to update.
The INI files are re-based to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\Fallout4.exe if the global injector is active (it will be if you used SKIM64). The standalone version of the mod is only available through the original thread.

ROTFLMAO.

There was a news story tonight about Special K (Ketamine) being used to treat postpartum depression in women. I did a Google search and at the top of the search results (right below Wikipedia), I found my own software.

The software is named Special K as a play on words with the injectable party drug, but it is such an insignificant use of the term that I don't think it should ever appear where it does.

Clearly this is search engine optimization based on browsing history, but it leads one to wonder what they know, how they know it and who buys this information from them.

You're on the top of page 3 for me. Last time I deleted my browser history and cache was a over a month ago, though.

In other news, I thought for a second that Special K was crashing New Vegas, but it ended up being a stutter removing mod I thought I needed. It was constantly making the window lose focus (kicking me back to the desktop while pressing menu buttons) or even slowing my fps to a slideshow. Maybe they were conflicting, but I deleted that mod and now the game runs like melted butter.

IIRC, this group's image actually used to be the Kellogg's Special K logo, so Kaldaien is clearly aware of this.

@Kaldaien,

*nod* those are the files I'm editing.
It's got the SpecialK "HUD" (color, options etc) and displays Fallout4 "works" v 0.3.5.

I fixed Unicode text issues recently, for the Russian individual who last mentioned these problems. The real problem, however, is that even after I correctly handle the UTF-8 text, most of the foreign code pages don't exist in the fonts currently in Special K and you get a bunch of lovely boxes :-\

I think I can go ahead and merge some of the fonts like the user did here and try to support Cyrillic and Japanese. Arabic is probably out of the question, but I doubt anyone cares? =P

0.7.40 Released
There's too damn much stuff changed to document it here. Press Ctrl + Shift + Backspace and see for yourself what has changed, that's the best you're going to get from me =P

I anticipate that some games may no longer start, I have changed the default settings to disable TraceLoadLibrary. Some games need that turned on in order to catch SteamAPI, if a game doesn't have SteamAPI frames ticking away in the config UI this may be why -- you can turn Strict Compliance OFF and Trace Load Library ON for those games.

Is there a way to fix SpecialK not capturing screenshots on achivement unlock? The evil within in particular if you have any knowledge of that...

Great update, by the way. :)
Kaldaien Apr 6, 2017 @ 11:53pm
Yeah, the DLL Loader Compliance setting locks DLL loading to a single thread.

As-per Microsoft's guidelines, DLLs should always be loadable this way, but many DLLs written by people who should know better (NVIDIA, etc.) are non-compliant and will deadlock games if I acquire a lock. It's a crying shame that so many DLLs are written incorrectly, because holding a lock while DLLs load to prevent race conditions would be a really nice thing to have.

Basically, anything that uses NVIDIA Ansel is using a DLL that is written wrong and likely to lockup at start. Under certain circumstances, a few of Valve's Steam DLLs behave the same and it's all because they're non-compliant.

Hopefully nobody ever has to understand what I just wrote =P

I've checked-in 0.7.41, with a healthy window management overhaul. The last remaining pieces in 0.7.x are configurable keybindings, and then it's on to 0.8 :)

Really happy to have that feature available from the config UI now. Most users probably didn't know that existed in Special K :) In special circumstances where performance is going off the rails because the driver is doing something, the OSD can be setup to show this.
