"I agree with Nazaniel, if you could keep the old build as a beta option, that would be a great solution. The only downside would be if this made XP users' versions incompatible with the rest of the community's versions."
That is exactly why it is not a good idea. Doing this fragments the community into the haves and have-nots. I can't see many server operators deliberately wanting to cater for 1% of our player base either.

"please don't", "NO, dont end support. plz"
What we're saying is that eventually it won't be our choice. One day a critical 3rd party component will no longer run in Windows XP, and that's the day Sven Co-op will drop Windows XP support. This has very nearly happened on more than multiple occasions.

"Can't you make a Windows XP beta branch that you just don't update?"
Unfortunately this would just heavily fragment the player base.

@blehmeh98 Sven Co-op is already ported to Linux, even if the Steam Store page doesn't show it. It's kind of unstable on my PC, but it works.

I know it kind of defeats the point of a coop game but at least they could play it local or host Windows XP servers or something.
I am not one of the affected since my machines run Linux and Windows 7 but it seems like an easy thing to do.

Porting to a new OS entirely, just to help 1% of the playerbase?

nehhh.

I hate to be the huge "OH HAR LINUX BBLBLLBLBLABLBLABLBLA" guy here, but if you guys ported Sven to Linux, this wouldn't be a problem. There's a couple of Ubuntu based distroes with old computers in mind, so if you did the bare minimum of porting Sven to the latest version of Ubuntu, it would run on all these old machines that don't even support Windows Vista.

Well support for something has to end somewhere.
