you can easily monkey-patch it by creating a steam_appid.txt file with 732810 as content and putting it into the "game directory".

For macOS it's Slipstream.app/Contents/MacOS

I believe that the crashes have nothing to do with that warning. I get that too on the command line and the game runs fine. However there is output after the warning that suggests the patch above and then crashes because it fails to find the appid.

does not launch in Linux at all. 64bit latest Ubuntu on an i7 laptop with nvidia drivers.

tried from console got this:
