Steam Store Home: A refresh

We're giving the Steam store home a refresh, and you can try it out now by opting into the latest Steam beta within your desktop client.

The updated design is our latest work in making improvements across the Steam store, like the game page updates we made a few months ago. The new layout aims to make it even easier for you to find new games by displaying more content and information. We're now displaying higher resolution game art for better visual clarity. Those of you with higher resolution monitors will notice the new store home is wider and more responsive. If you're viewing the store home on Steam Deck or in Big Picture mode you'll also see these updates.

Updates

Overall Design Refresh: Over the years we've introduced new sections and added new ways for you to discover and learn about games, and this update aims to make the store home feel more cohesive. Each section has a distinct set of tools and information to give users many ways to explore the diverse catalog of games on Steam. A goal of this visual refresh is to strike a balance between providing more consistency in UI elements, while allowing the unique nature of each section to show through.

Featured & Recommended: There is now more detailed information highlighting the reason a game is being recommended to you; plus a user review round-up. When hovering over a game's cover art, the game's micro-trailer will play for a quick peak at the action. We also added a sneak-peek of the adjacent games in the carousel.
Option to disable: Micro-trailer hovers and animated marketing assets can be disabled in Store Settings for users with motion sensitivity.
Discounts & Events: Now uses larger game artwork.
Updated Discovery Queue: A quicker way to browse titles in your Discovery Queue without leaving the page.
Better Hover States: A short description is presented along with other relevant information. The UI is updated to provide better contrast and legibility.
Infinite Scroll: Refreshed design to bring this part of the store home in line visually and functionally with the rest of the sections.

New Sections

Your Wishlist: This section, as you might guess, features games on discount from your wishlist.
DLC for Your Games: This section will feature DLC that's on discount for games from your library.

Steam Client Update - March 13th

A new Steam client has been released and will be automatically downloaded.

General

Fix a rare crash when downloading games if regional content server ends HTTP/2 connection in an unexpected manner.
Fix intermittent error when opening Big Picture Mode overlay.

Big Picture

Fixed the Universal Facebutton Glyph setting not being applied in the footer.

Windows

Fixed the Xbox Game Bar opening the Steam Overlay unintentionally during gameplay.
Fixed games that enable and utilize WM_POINTER events for mouse input seeing mouse actions through the in-game overlay when it is up (latest Unity engine builds in particular).

Linux

Fixed a case where the client would get stuck in a loading spinner after restarting in Offline Mode.

Steam Client Update - March 9th

A new Steam client has been released and will be automatically downloaded.

General

Added the option to attach hardware specs when writing or updating a Steam User Review on a game's store page
Added the option to provide anonymized framerate data. When enabled Steam will collect gameplay framerate data, stored without connection to your Steam account but identified with the kind of hardware you are playing on. This data will help us learn about game compatibility and improve Steam. This feature is currently in Beta with a focus on devices running SteamOS.
Added an icon on tools in the game list with a tooltip to explain what they are.
Added notification settings for showing a toast and playing a sound when an achievement is unlocked.
Added a warning dialog when a user selects "Tools" in their library filter for the first time that explains what tools are and why they are showing up in the game list.
Fixed intermittent error in downloads view when moving game entries between scheduled and queued sections.
Fixed displaying TPM and Secure Boot status on Windows in Steam's System Information dialog when running the 64-bit client.
Fixed issue where a game beta/version showed the date for when the beta was assigned, instead of showing the date when the game build was created.

Library

Installed demos that are no longer playable now show "Uninstall" instead of "Play" as their primary action.
Newly added demos and free to play games will appear at the top of the recent games list.

Hardware Survey / System Information

Fixed an issue where VRAM on some graphics cards was not reported correctly (-1)
In the case of multiple display adapters, we now select the one with the most VRAM to display and report to Steam

Game Recording

Fixed exporting clips for games with names that contain invalid Windows file name characters, such as "?".

Chat

Updated the /store command so that it now uses the new Store trailer player.

Remote Play

Fixed hover behavior when using a tablet stylus.

Steam Families

Improved setting layout and navigation on desktop, deck and mobile devices.

Accessibility

Various fixes for high contrast mode

Streaming

Fixed a case where streaming could leave downloads throttled even after the stream stopped.

Linux

Fixed a bug that could result in Proton games showing up as "Not valid on current platform" for users with very large libraries when using offline mode.

Steam Input

Added missing buttons to Mode Shift Button selection menu: Left Stick Touch and Right Stick Touch
Button Chord Activator's drop down list of available buttons has been replaced with a multi button selector. This means that newer controllers have full access to extra grip buttons that were previously unlisted.
Gyro to Joystick Camera's Minimum Joystick Output now matches Gyro to Joystick Deflection's behavior, which is useful for identifying a game's internal joystick deadzone.
Improved input latency while controller rumble is happening on third party controllers.
Added option to apply Gyro to Joystick Deflection range remapping and acceleration settings on an Per-Axis or Circular basis.
Fixed a bug in Gyro To Joystick Deflection mode where a setting of 0 for Minimum Gyro Deflection, and any non zero Minimum Joystick Output would still result in zero output without a significant amount of gyro deflection. This should help gyro users to dial in games' internal joystick dead zone size more easily.

Steam’s Tower Defense Fest is packed with great deals on games that let you build things up and attempt to prevent others from tearing them down. Sure, that also sounds like internet advice for building confidence and avoiding negativity, BUT it’s also an accurate description of what you’ll find in the games we’re celebrating all week!

From now through March 16th at 10 a.m. Pacific, you’ll find discounts on everything from medieval fantasy worlds, to auto battlers and minimalist games. Navigate through mazes and killing machines (maybe both?) and play alone or as a team. A variety of ways to play; a common goal: DEFEND YOUR TOWER.

Horse games and horse-like games are the focus of this fest: Steam Horse Fest is fully underway, featuring discounts and demos from now through February 23rd at 10 a.m. Pacific.

Looking for deals on games that feature unicorns? You'll find them here. Looking for discounts on games with donkeys? Those too. And, of course, there are many different ways to game with horses: Raise them, race them, build stables for them, and more.
