I was already pressured by time in some of my games. Unless you invest your time heavily into this game and can consider most moves as your second nature you are literally out because you will be forced to pick suboptimal moves most of your games as you won't have enough time to consider each option (there are a lot!). One more thing to make the game less appealing to new players.

advice for those tinkering with the smoke machine: artifact is at its best in those surprisingly frequent epic games that come down to the wire with tricky decisions and mind games. this timer change favors the chaff that happens in between at the expense of the good stuff. i wouldn't mind games being shorter but rushing the players is a shameful way to achieve that. kinda like you are pivoting to wider appeal since you failed at game design? fix the cowardly card balance, it's worse than blizzard. it should be exciting to draw a rare, not like oh great here's a situational card that even in that situation it is still worse than the op cards. and i guess it's a bit late for this one - but seriously these are the mechanics? ;D

anyway i was feeling maybe about done with this game, mostly just curious to see what new card sets may bring, and now along comes this glorious patch. like ok i'm sure this was just a brief mistake and valve will revert the timer changes to some extent, but this just goes to show how clueless they are about the design of this product. playing with the new timer is such a different experience i am struggling to understand how they didn't have some sense or pride or something to hold them back from completely upending their original vision. i guess they feel like they failed and they are just fumbling around trying to get better results.

after playing for a while i understand it better. now i've seen enough, the game feels like casting your lot into a vast slot machine with a million gears and mechanisms and you can control it but not really, not in the greater sense. the balance is so **** and the design is pasted up with rng in so many places that there is not really a game here. my learning and influence amounts just to effect a more dazzling show out of the smoke and mirrors. it strikes me now that this is just a new form for valve's oldest trick - the playable cinema.

i had a lot of fun with artifact. i don't regret it, only $9 after selling some cards and got some 185 hours of meditative tactics gaming. it has this kind of grandiose design that is frankly awful and horribly inelegant, but there is so much energy behind it and nothing quite like it, so it was fun to explore. it has an impressive ability to create these epic battles with such razor close conclusions to send you popping off your chair in triumph... yet at the same time there is this hollow feeling in it.

Please revert the tournament timer increment back to 60 secs or your real playerbase will quit.

Alright. I really liked the game (despite all the flame from others) just until this update. I just lost an exciting game where I had to consider my moves carefully because of the new timer. From my point of view the timer was fine before (I never had an enemy who seemed to be obviously stalling), but now everything is just hectic.
