dunno how big of an effort this would be (or even possible at all), but what about doing both, one "balanced" and one "random" stat xml, so players can choose maybe from the game start?

@mal: Lots of excellent suggestions there! I will have to think about those some, and talk to the community a bit more, too. I really like the idea of a re-roll hacking option, though, and I see that as being a thing to definitely do. Making ship counts moddable via names is also a really good idea.

I kinda want to adjust the flow of how you get units so that it is more interesting now that things are more plentiful, but I still have to do more speccing out on that.

@deadshift2010: We don't have any specific plans for expansions (DLC) yet, but we do plan on doing them in the manner we did for the first game. I'm against season passes on principle, though, because we can't guarantee you'll get something that you feel like is worth it.

Kickstarter is a bit of a different beast since you know you're backing something that would not exist otherwise, and there is an inherent level of risk that is understood with that platform, as well as explanations by the creator as to what they are doing to mitigate the risk.

But when it comes to anything else, I firmly stand by the Don't Preorder Games rule, myself as a customer and as a developer in terms of what we make available. Season passes are kind of an extension of that.

We do have some planned post-release content already that is going to be free, though. Those bits are concrete, but the paid expansion stuff is more nebulous.

gotta throw my nickel into this one Chris...
Could we get a fourth ARS option to hack only to improve/reroll triangle ship modifiers?
I'm going on the assumption modifiers will be visible when peeking at the ARS. (hrrmm.. sluggish parasite, XL microfighters, or numerous hydras? or do I change my viscious sluggish fighters to viscious hardened fighters instead of a new unlock?)
Also, ARS options 2 and 3 should get better modifier pools than the no hack option perhaps?
give us a template for modifiers and we the community will go hog wild! (ship count should be moddable by titles too, yay numerous hydras!)

Out of curiosity, are there any plans as of yet for DLC? And if so, will there be anything like a season pass available for purchase as launch? Keep up the good work, can't wait for release.

As far as doing stat upgrades for specific ship lines, I think that's going to be out of scope for now... probably. But I'd like to get into that sort of thing someday, I think.

i hope with all this random stats there will be possible for players to upgrade units in some way to give them a special role like if you see your fighter have a super-fast speed - you added him even more speed so you have a very mobile unit for special operations and border protection, or give a bomber more armor if he have a higher cost than usually so you will not need to rebuild them so often... :o
