i look forward to seeing what else you guys can implement. i love the empire building aspects of this game. i'd love to see player owned cargo haulers npcs and gate networks (for all the automated trade between sectors).

I don't know if this was answered elsewhere, but i have a question in regards to the research system. As it is now, chain gun and laser point defense turrets are unresearchable, because as soon as you combine even five of the same type, they will always lose their point defense status and default into a non point defense chain gun or laser. I suspect that happens because they are not entirely separate from laser and chain guns. This becomes rather frustrating as finding quality point defense beyond exceptional level is nearly impossible. On a similar vein, trying to research seeker rockets is equally frustrating. Is it possible to separate those turrets from the default ones, so if you research 5 point defense lasers you'll get a point defense laser of the next rarity level (the same for point defense chain guns and seeker rockets)?
