As a mathematician with focus on approximation theory I immediately thought: Have you guys already tried to replace the sine and cosine calculations with approximations to improve the performance?

For instance, the fifth Taylor polynomial P5(x) = x - 1/6 x^3 + 1/120 x^5 is very very (sufficiently?) close to sin(x) in the range of [-Pi/2 ; Pi/2] and should be calculated way faster than the sine function.

I don't think the problem is so much with "too many blocks", as it is that the procedural generation favors "fishbone needle ships" and "needle ships with square-shaped rings around them" too much.

It would be nice if the generation has a heavier weight toward bulky, blocky designs.

wow, performance upgrade I like it. Though I dont come across any performance issues with my i7-4790 with GTX 970m laptop in this game. Always 60 fps. Koonschi you are great just do what you are up to. Looking forward to the fighters & carrier update and the weapons update. Hope we can have directional large main weapons, torpedoes and main cannon turrets, ECM,distruptor, cloaking and jamming systems for pvp that will make the game greater.

So uh, does that fix the network latency/ping? I play single player and the game is unplayable due to 300-600 ping. Mostly i play right outside of the mentioned "barrier" and even small scale battles can lag.

I love this game, sigh. If only there was also away-missions

"Ever had Voxel basics in school?(aka notch) Guess not."

Let's break this down, because it doesn't seem like you know what AKA stands for.
It stands for 'also known as'. So, what, in this sentence is also known as Notch? School? 'Voxel basics'? You can't even communicate your complaint properly because you're unable to translate your thoughts to English. I'd be glad to help you write your posts in the future - just kidding, haha. Get out of here.

Personally I do wonder if enemy ships in general should have fewer blocks. They frequently end up with endless mazes of tiny little compartments and overlapping walls that offer them little real benefit. Granted it makes for improved visuals as you bore into the hull and explosions and debris pour out, but it leads to a kind of... I dunno, "homogenous" ship. Like there's often no significant parts that you can focus on and affect the ship. They usually don't have 1 generator, or shield block, or engine, they have 20 spread throughout.

But this is all design pondering, not performance pondering.

Koonschi. He's not worth it. Your game is fabulous.

Thinking about it, I have seen some ships (iirc they generally appear like a ring with a center sort of tower, and whenever I encounter these they appear basically the same) that are fairly small, perhaps frigate size, yet appear to be made entirely of subdivided blocks at a rather small size scale. Afaik they aren't very common and never really are a big processing hit (at least on my somewhat weak system) other than when a large chunk of their blocks explode simultaneously.

Kouta: Are you referring to those?
