I am now entirely convinced that the contractors are deployed through a cheesy hotline and that they are basically space ghostbusters
if there's something strange
killing all your friends
who you gonna call
the contractors

@eagle0600 Relative difficulties depend on your character's gear. Some are dealing with everyone easily, others don't use gear and can deal with anyone using simple crash-trap. For me getting into the mind of "Technophobe" was extremely difficult

In my experience, these listed relative difficulties are almost entirely wrong. My order (increasing difficulty) would be Tracker > Jammer > Defender/Predator. Trackers can be defeated by a crash trap pretty reliably, which any character can have at basically any point.

@Mad Pigeon: Firstly, they carry crash-blades that can crash shields. You can loot them, but they're single-use. Secondly, because they teleport so that their blade teleports inside you. You can actually find a unique blade that does this too, but not from the Predators.

Why don't active shields help against them? They are not working for a long time anyways and enemies are fine with their shields against a blade, why should the player have a worse shield?

Honestly the invulnerability of the Defender shields makes perfect sense.

He generates shields, for other people, but has the equipment on -his- person.

The reason the shields are uncrashable and unhackable is because there is actually nothing to hack or crash on the guards themselves. If you used a crashbeam on the guard, what would it crash?

It's like trying to break a projector by punching the picture on the wall.

So far the crash trap seems to be the best anti-everything device in the game by far. Drops shields and disables mercs. Prevents alarms, blocks all other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t equipment. Infinite uses.
