Good game, but not good enough to justify that kind of price tag. At half its current price I'd recommend it, at its current price I tell people to wait.

I still see no sight of the promised ability to custom write your own storylines. Modding is a complicated MESS with no debugger available and the game will crash out on you with vague untraceable errors, leaving your mod useless unless you spend countless hours checking everything.

Not being able to play anything other than the base return of the Shakturi or just a vanilla game leaves the game stale after a few plays. For all these reasons the game is not worth the pricetag by any stretch and severely lacking in polish and modding support, which has been in large part provided by the valiant and faithful modding community. Not a Tier 1 game by any stretch!

I first heard about the game when it hit Steam. Surely, I was at first set off by the price, but when I heard a few good things about it from the side and watched some of the gameplay video I figured that the game is really worth the price. I got it, played it and didnt regret it. So far I can describe it as the most engrossing and very detailed 4x game that is right on the top of my 4x space games, along with Gal Civ and Master of Orion. Thumbs up...

Clearly a much loved game which looks to provide hundreds of hours of entertainment as illustrated by youtubers Das246810 and Larry Monte. One wonders how many people are put off by the pricing, though that's an old argument. We know the pricing won't budge at all, so it's potentially lost revenue for 'em. It'll stay on my wishlist until the very occasional sale. Pity.

@Menedil : you need to go to the homepage of Distant Worlds on the Matrix Games website.

'If you own Distant Worlds plus all three expansions, you will be able to generate a $ 40 coupon code for Distant Worlds: Universe. This is then added to the $ 10 release discount we are giving (until May 29th) for a total of $ 50 off the regular price.'

I paid Universe only 10$ on Steam. Though I owned all the previous expansions, considering the new features added by Universe and the easy install via Steam, I consider this a fair price.
Unfortunately, you won't get the 10$ release discount which ended in May, but you'll still get the 10$ discount for each Distant Worlds games/addons you own.

Hope that helps.

Well, while I appreciate the hard work put by the developpers, I think 60$ is overpriced. Especially given that I've already paid for Distant Worlds and one expansion on the Matrix website.

It's a great game, and I'm sure the developpers have spent much time fixing and improving it. But we can get Europa Universalis IV or Crusader Kings II (the two closest or more similar games I can think of) for a handful of € like every two months. That is, including all DLCs but the latest one or two.

Nowadays, 60$ is the price of a shitty, Activision or EA AAA FPS. If this was a WW1 wargame meant for a couple hundred players and sold on an obscure website, I'd understand. But DW is a popular game, covered by mainstream media and sold on Steam.

As long as the price stays that high, I won't get this Distant World, despite knowing how good it is.

This game will not be going on sale anytime soon folks. The company that makes this is HARDCORE when it comes to pricing. In the 4 years it's existed I've only seen like, what, 3 or 4 sales?
