Any thoughts on forcing direct mode for people with intel videocards onboards that cannot be disabled? (asus roc gr8, some laptops)

If you launch SteamVR manually without Steam running, the Steam dashboard won't show up. However, the desktop dashboard overlay is hosted by Steam, so that will only show up when Steam is running. Anyone can create a similar dashboard overlay if they wish. There's an example to get started here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/tree/master/samples/helloworldoverlay

+1 ive got an x-55 hotas that i have to unplug to use the overlay, ability to freeze/ignore certain controllers from the overlay would be very useful. Otherwise the overlay goes mad switching constantly without active input.

I hope this fixes what it sounds like. With a HOTAS plugged in, the SteamVR overlay goes completely nuts if you try to use a Vive controller to adjust the sound volume for example.

The SteamVR overlay is still basically impossible to navigate with a HOTAS alone though, ideally I should be able to navigate it without needing to turn on my Vive controllers at all for games like Elite. Main issue is that since there's no "start" button on DirectInput devices it's impossible to switch between the UI sections. The hat switch would be a good substitute.

I know HOTAS users are probably a tiny minority of enthusiast users, but there's a reasonable chance that someone with $800 and a room to dedicate for VR might also have $150 for a Thrustmaster FCS HOTAS.

I have problem with energy save on my htc vive satellites after last update. They dont power off...before update when i exited steamvr all htc vive power off. Now not

wow.. new level of respect valve, I usually dismiss revive (out of fear of investing $ for games that may become compatible) but bravo. I shall now give it a second look
