I've heard lots of discussion about how implementing multiplayer into this game would improve it. I tend to agree that multiplayer would be awesome to have in this game. Depending on how multiplayer mechanics are designed, though, is what makes it challenging to implement in patches of the game. This is the same problem games like CRAWL have struggled with. They might have worked amazingly well as online-multiplayer games, but problems with lag have to be dealt with in the initial design phase or not introduced at all. A couch-party multiplayer feature for this game might be doable (with its own set of problems to deal with), but the online multiplayer ship has already sailed. And trying to introduce that feature would require a total game overhaul from the very beginning. I doubt that PEGI7 and the other game designers would be thrilled at taking on that challenge at this point in time.

Heck, I bet they could something like double the amount of time people stay onboard with the game if there was an additional easier difficulty level or something. This should still be vastly more effort than tweaking the knife to make it easier to use effectively. Maybe not. I could see a huge change if they just had a difficulty which the only thing it changed was give you 1.5x or 2x the ammo.

Well. No point in griping. Plenty of games out there. It's just that I really want to like this game a lot more. It's worthy of it. The technology is, and so much of what makes it fun is. I do have to admit the new Arena mode is excellent for letting you get in on the gunplay on-demand.

@Nighthawk This depends on the state of the codebase of course, but I don't think it would be a great huge task to change something like adding a more forgiving knife attack. I agree that there's not enough clamoring about it, but the point you make about how the first two levels are a complete chore is spot-on and basically the single reason why I do not play the game 5 times as much.

By any reasonable measure, it should be worth the devs' time to tweak the difficulty just slightly to alleviate this glaring issue. It always makes me wince (as a developer myself who has done quite a bit of homegrown half-finished gamedev) when so much beautiful work goes into the product when a few tiny parameters or basic behaviors are obviously lacking.

I see where you're coming from and I appreciate you being a gentleman about it.

In the end, I guess the developers either decide to 1) go with what the majority of the community wants 2) do something entirely different or 3) make no action whatsoever.

I can understand that you like the game the way it is, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. To be perfectly honest, I doubt the melee will change from its current form, because very few devs who have released a "complete" game take advice from its fans, and when they do, it usually requires a lot of clamoring, which I don't see in this regard.

I really would like to see some kind of enhanced melee weapon, though, if the default melee does not change (I just have a great love for melee combat in general). A buff to shotguns would be nice, too. They're a bit underpowered atm.

My apologizes. I mean no offense. I enjoy the melee, because I flow like wind leaving pools of blood (for you to slip on). Please don't ask the developers to change the melee just because you find it tedious or because you keep dying etc.

Just so you know, I've played the game enough to be able to use the knife properly, and it isn't all that fun. You end up having to tediously stab things to death in the first level (because level 1 and 2 are the only levels where melee isn't obselete) in order to have extra ammo later.

If melee wasn't so absurdly difficult to use, it might make the first and second levels fun, not tedious, and a good warmup for the later levels. This is a roguelike, after all - a game meant to have great replayability, and one of the reasons I have not played it as often as I have played other hybrid roguelikes like Spelunky is because slogging through the first couple of levels is more a chore than anything else.

Also, as a person who wants to actually discuss this point, I don't appreciate the comment about "weaklings ... who haven't learned to use the knife properly." No need to resort to derogatory humor in order to make your argument, thank you.

Yeah, multiplayer would be cool, but I wouldn't hold my breath. One thing I learned is that if you want Multiplayer, you either have to plan it at the very beginning, have a very flexible engine, or put in a very half assed multiplayer, like Wazhacks(no offense, I love that game though). I would love a leaderboard though.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
