For the First Time EVER, Bug Mode Allows You to Fight as the Arachnid Menace!

To fight the Bug, we must understand the Bug - We can ill afford another Klendathu! For the first time in history, Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! will let you experience the fight as our opponent - the Arachnid menace.

Our teams - fully supported by FedDev and Games & Theory - are proud to announce our evolutionary Bug Mode - an advancement which will allow our Troopers to experience the battle from the Arachnid side - and the better we understand the Bug, the better we can kill the Bug.

The Federation knows how hard our Troopers are working to deliver a brighter tomorrow. So Bug Mode will be included for ALL Troopers who join the fight in Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!. We expect the best, and we give the best for our Citizens!

Meet the Assassin Bug! - The newly-discovered Assassin Bug provides a formidable new foe on the battlefield. With the ability to change between three different attack forms - Warrior, Hopper and Tanker variants - training within Bug Mode is vital for Troopers to fully understand and counteract the Assassin Bug’s varied abilities.
Explore Four Expansive Environments! - Much like our regular training experience, Bug Mode allows Troopers to explore each of our four Bug Mode areas as you conquer individual Terror Zones and experience how the Assassin Bug could cripple Federation outposts. Unlock new Bug Mode experiences by completing human campaign missions, and get inside the head of this new Arachnid threat.
Kill Them All! - As the Assassin Bug, Troopers will need to decimate each Terror Zone in the area to progress - confronting the firepower of the mighty Mobile Infantry to defeat our freedom-fighting Troopers and destroy vital operational resources.
Lead the Arachnid Strategy! - During each mission, the Assassin Bug can use pheromone spray to direct nearby allied Bugs, as well as use its ability to recruit new Bugs for the fight at Bug Nests. Learn how the Assassin Bug could turn the tide of battle, if it weren’t for the top Federal Armed Services training provided to our Troopers!

Become - Understand - Defeat!

Learning the capabilities of the Assassin Bug is critical to Federal advancement within the Arachnid Quarantine Zone. Each of the Assassin’s three attack forms comes with its own unique abilities, and only by understanding each of these will our Troopers be ready to counteract its insidious ways.

The Warrior Form

The default state for the Assassin Bug. Similar to the classic Arachnid Warrior, this form still poses a significant threat with razor-sharp pincers and agile movement.

While in the Warrior Form, the Assassin Bug will regain a small amount of health from every Trooper it takes down. This form will also allow the Assassin Bug to use the Charge ability - slicing through anything in its path as it dashes forward.

The Hopper Form

Transitioning into the Hopper Form will allow the Assassin Bug to take to the skies, surveilling its surroundings and analyzing the landscape. This will allow the Assassin Bug to easily identify all destructible buildings, as well as Bug nests and pheromone trails.

Flight within the Hopper Form enables the Assassin Bug to identify targets within each Terror Zone as well as allowing the Assassin’s Divebomb ability - with destructive landing impact for buildings and Troopers in the immediate area.

The Tanker Form

As a special variant, the Tanker Form requires a significant amount of energy, and the Assassin Bug will need to build this up before using this devastating form.

The Tanker Form increases the Assassin’s health and armour, as well as the damage caused by its regular attacks. Tanker Form also shifts the Assassin Bug’s internal organs, allowing for the distinctive flame spray attack as well as this form’s special ability - the Headbutt - causing significant damage to the intended target.

Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! deploys on March 16th, and we need all the Troopers we can get to hold the line against this latest threat. The Assassin Bug poses an unprecedented threat to our heroic Mobile Infantry Troopers, and the evolutionary Bug Mode is a vital effort to understand and defeat this enhanced Arachnid.

The Federation is Deploying a Bug-Blasting Patch for Our Demo

We’ll keep fighting, and we’ll win!

Today FedDev is releasing a patch to cover some of the issues you’ve been facing on the front lines of Zegema Beach. We’re proud to have seen so many of you deploying in our immersive training simulation, with the Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! Demo available NOW on Steam.

But no battle plan survives first contact with the Arachnid enemy! Our teams have been doing their part to make these bugs a thing of the past. We have some fixes deploying to Zegema Beach right now, including:

AI Troopers will make more effort to stand behind you, reducing (but not eliminating) the risk of friendly fire
AI Troopers will now focus their fire (where possible) on any enemy which you are fighting at or taunting
AI Troopers included in your squad will also follow you more closely (while in follow mode), meaning they are better able to provide support
The Q key can now be rebound in settings and is not hard locked to Weapon Swap
AZERTY keyboard layouts are now working as intended (Troopers who previously launched with AZERTY will need to delete the config folder*)
Loading screen text now reads correctly when loading shaders (players previously thought it may have crashed)
The software will now open in Full Screen - Windowed as standard (reducing resolution issues for new Troopers)
