Changed the Continue button on the Main Menu to exclusively load Campaign save files

48 Hours of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2

It's been 48 hours since we released Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and what a busy 48 hours it's been!

We've watched fun gameplay videos, read lots of great press coverage, and have seen all your wonderful reviews and comments.

Boltgun 2 Across the Internet

We're really happy with how the game has been received and we thought it might be fun to share some of the fun things we've spotted online since launch:

Hellstorm Wargaming showed pure dedication as he streamed the game for over 11 hours in his determination to finish it all in one sitting. Our dev team watched the entire thing together on Discord, cheering Mikey along as he went:

Known Bugs and Fixes

No launch is perfect, and we have seen a couple of bugs cropping up via our bug report form[aurochdigital.com] and in the Steam forums.

Unable to progress past a level when pressing continue - We believe this is related to accessing a level via Level Select rather than the campaign and then clicking on the Continue button on the Main Menu. This would load your last created save which would be from the Level Select screen, not your campaign.
- To fix this, try quitting to menu and selecting a campaign save from the Load Level screen. Alternatively, some players have reported that restarting their game fixed this issue.
- We also have a change to make continuing the campaign clearer and easier to do for players.
Nurgle FPS drops – An issue is occurring that causes FPS to drop during the “Nurgle Nightmare” campaign.
- We have investigated this issue and have a hotfix we plan to release soon.

Fatal Error on launching the game – This issue appears to be a specific hardware issue, such as the Intel Core Ultra series of CPUs.
- To fix this, try updating this driver - Intel® NPU Driver - Windows*[www.intel.com] and we also have a fix that should work without the update.

The final purge in “The Trenches” level not ending when it should
- We have a fix for this, which will be part of a hotfix patch
Stuck in the Lord of Skulls – Unlucky positioning led to some players getting stuck inside the Lord of Skulls when he collapsed.
- We’ve fixed this in the upcoming hotfix.

While we’d love to have these fixes in before the weekend, we need a few days to carefully test the new build and make sure it addresses the above issues without introducing any new ones.

We’re aiming to release a patch next week to address these issues, as well as few other pieces of feedback we've seen players raising. The biggest of which is crosshair customisation, which will let you adjust opacity, scale, and change to a dot.

In the run up to launch, we’ll also be sharing several Steam posts taking a closer look at the new enemies and the biggest changes from Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

We’d also like to take a moment to thank everyone who submitted bug reports and feedback from the demo. They were incredibly helpful and we read every single one of them and implemented some of your feedback. More on that soon!

The ULTIMATE Boss Battle Music

The new release date trailer (featured above) absolutely shreds, but we can’t take any of the credit for that as we weren’t the ones to write the music...

One of our goals with Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 was to try and make it bigger and better than the original game and we had some big ideas, like adding a second playable character, incorporating the four Chaos factions, and a few others we can’t mention yet.

But one we can announce today is that Mick Gordon, composer for DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein: The New Order, joined us for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 to create the music for our final boss battle!

But, Who’s the Bad Guy?

By this point of the post, you’ve hopefully already watched our release date trailer, whether that’s for the release date, or to listen to Mick’s punchy riffs. But we also snuck one final surprise in though – a first look at our antagonist.

That’s right! In, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 our playable characters Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath soon find themselves facing the wrath of Vashtorr the Arkifane, a demigod of immense power.

Race from world to world to cleanse the corruption powering Vashtorr’s daemonic machine and to stand a chance of banishing the demigod back to the Warp.

Mick's musical personification of Vashtorr is full of dread and danger- it's a welcome addition to the sonic palette. He put together a suite of cues that set a new bar for the soundtrack, laying the bricks to a climactic showdown with Vashtorr himself

Start the countdown! Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches in 49 days on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also coming soon, but more on that later!

A Game Shaped by You!

When we released the demo for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, we asked for your feedback on what you liked and didn’t like about that experience.

Here’s a brief overview of some of the changes we’ve made to the game, based on that feedback:

Bolt Pistol magazine feels too small – We've increased the capacity of the Bolt Pistol from 6 bullets to 8.
The Ice World blizzard is too dense – We’ve reduced the severity of the blizzard.
I can’t melee whilst reloading Nyra’s Bolt Pistol – You can now!
Malum’s Charge needs a knockback – Now it has one!
The Bolt Pistol machine spirit feels too slow – We don't want to give away too much, but we’re a big fan of the new version 👀
The Chainsword makes an unpleasant noise – The Chainsword was really embracing the grimdark tone of the game and screaming at you, but we’ve fixed it now.

The best thing to come out of our feedback form was meeting Ozzy the Cat, who motivated us to continue working hard on the game and has earned themselves a spot in our credits forever. Thanks Ozzy!

Faction Deep Dive – Nurgle

In Warmhammer 40,000 Boltgun, Malum Caedo came up against some of the perilous forces of the pestilent agents of Nurgle, such as Nurglings, Plague Toads and even a Great Unclean One. Blessed with resilience and renewal, the forces of Nurgle return in Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun 2 to plague the progress of both Malum and Nyra.

And this time, there are some brand new Nurgle foes to overcome.

Poxwalkers

As you venture through the muck and mire of one of a Nurgle-infested Deathworld, you’ll have to cleave through regenerating swarms of Poxwalkers that rise out of the ground. The sheer volume of rotting bodies will take significant firepower to chew through before their clawing hands, tentacle limbs, and gnashing teeth reach you.

Plague Marines

Whilst Poxwalkers shamble towards you, Plague Marines prefer a more ranged approach with their deadly weapons.

Plague Marines are the foot soldiers of the Death Guard, a traitor legion dedicated to the will of Nurgle. Their bloated bodies are clad in rusting armour covered in boils and slime, and the rejuvenating powers of their god make them extremely resilient to damage. They are armed with deadly guns, including plague belchers firing volleys of infectious slime, creating hazardous zones.

Blightlord Terminators

Even more powerful than their heretical brother Plague Marines are the Blightlord Terminators. They are inexorable in their advances, their decaying bodies encased within a tomb of Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour.

With a mixed loadout, Blightlord Terminators are a threat at both range and melee. One of the deadliest weapons they wield is a flail of corruption, which causes eruptions of corrupting energy to spew from the ground around them.

Nurgle will return alongside Tzeentch in Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun 2. But Malum and Nyra will also need to face the forces of Khorne and Slaanesh, which you can read about in our previous Steam updates.

One Week To Go

There's only one week to go until the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and we've got more exciting news to share before then!

We've just received confirmation from Steam that Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is Steam Deck verified! So, you'll be able to purge heretics from the comfort of your desk, sofa, bed or on the move, when Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches on the 14th of October 2026.

Faction Deep Dive – The Tzeentch

Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath are no strangers to the heretical forces of chaos that plague the Imperium. However familiar one can be with Chaos, the forces of Tzeentch are the most unknowable, always changing, evolving and plotting.

In Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun, Malum brought Bolter and Chainsword to bear down on a daemonic incursion that included some of the horrors conjured up by the god of change, Tzeentch. Now these warp entities such as Screamers, Flamers and Horrors return once more, this time at the head of Thousand Sons Rubricae.

Rubric Marines

Advancing inexorably across the battlefield, Rubric Marines are what remains of the Thousand Sons traitor legion – once proud Astartes, now mindless automatons. Their ornate armour is a shell that contains what used to be an Astartes, eternally bound to both their suit and the will of Tzeentch. Their Inferno Bolters and Soulreaper Cannons unleash a flurry of warp-touched bolts that flood the arena, creating a challenge of dodging whilst keeping up the offensive.

Scarab Occult Terminators

Fighting alongside the Rubric Marines are the veteran Scarab Occult Terminators; once the living bodyguards of their Primarch, Magnus the Red. They are imprisoned in hulking suits of Terminator armour with a dizzying output of ranged fire from Combi-Bolters, Hellfyre Missiles, and Heavy Warpflamers. Despite their size and slow movement, targeting them will provide a challenge as they seemingly phase-shift when targeted and can rapidly redeploy with Tzeentch trickery.

The forces of Tzeentch are just one of the enemy factions that Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath will be purging when Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun 2 releases later this year.

What’s New in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2?

Welcome, loyal subjects of the Emperor!

As we work to put the final touches on Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 ahead of its release on October 14th, we'd like to take a moment and recap the biggest new additions and changes we're making in the sequel.

We definitely won’t be changing the fast-paced action that made Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun so fun, but we do want to make sure the sequel keeps you on your toes as you face down the forces of Chaos.

1) A Campaign Across the Cosmos

As you venture across the galaxy, you'll chart your own course through more than 30 levels, bringing justice to planets in dire need of cleansing. A branching campaign will let you choose where you go next, giving you the freedom of forging your own path, with every planet featuring unique environments and challenges.

That does mean it’ll be impossible to see everything in one playthrough, so you’ll need to choose carefully when selecting which regions to visit and which ones to surrender to the archenemy…

2) A Fiendish Menagerie of Foes

The forces of Chaos never rest, so neither must the might of humanity. We've included 40+ new enemies in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, finally answering your calls to obliterate enemies from the four Chaos god factions (Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh) in glorious, visceral fashion.

We've also stepped up the complexity of our boss encounters. It's important that they capture that thrill of finally defeating something that feels insurmountable, so we gave the big bads in Boltgun 2 extra design attention to keep you on your toes. We want to make these encounters interesting and epic, whilst making sure they aren’t bullet sponges. We know that won't stop you.

3) Fight Alongside Your Allies

Until this point, Malum Caedo has been single-handedly warring against cultists, Chaos Space Marines and Daemons in his mission to finish the work Captain Titus started.

This all changes in the sequel with the introduction of the Death Korps of Krieg. On some planets, these relentless troops will join the battle in the name of the Imperium. What they lack in strength, they make up for in fanatic devotion and unwavering loyalty to kill - and die - for the Emperor.

4) Slay Your Way!

The next question is simple: Who will you be when you get there? In Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 you can take control of two very different agents of the Emperor’s will.

Malum Caedo returns! Titular Boltgun in hand, he serves as an instrument of vengeance against the ceaseless hordes. His Chainsword also returns, and he can use it to launch himself toward any heretic in sight! Show off your devotion to ordnance with frag grenades and rush forth with Caedo’s Obliterating Charge, returning from the first game with new visuals and more power!

Nyra Veyrath joins the fray! Outfitted with a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol, she purifies heresy through fire and steel with weaponry worthy of the Adepta Sororitas. Nyra’s Fervent Slide gives her unchallenged vertical and horizontal agility, while clearing any unfortunate cultists in her path. When all else fails, she can lay waste to whole crowds with the tank-busting power of a Melta Bomb!

5) The Imperium's Arsenal at your Fingertips

What's a boomer shooter without some wildly powerful armaments? Each of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2's playable characters draws from a broad arsenal of mankind's finest; depending on who you play as, you'll have access to imposing implements including Bolters, Flamers, Stakethrowers, Shotguns, and oh-so-much more.

Malum Caedo’s trusty Boltgun is adorned with purity seals & parchment, reflecting its venerable status since the first campaign on Graia.

Sister, get the Flamer. the Heavy Flamer.

And on the note of options…

6) A More Personalised Experience

We’re giving you more tools to approach your journey across the galaxy!

We heard your requests and have added a new automap system that makes it easier to keep track of where you’ve been and which objectives you still need to complete in a level, as well as where to find them! This is in addition to Boltgun 1’s helpful Navigation Guide, which shows a path to your next objective.

Both navigation tools aim to help you tear through levels with minimal interruptions or you can choose not to use them at all on your cosmos-cleansing campaign.

The original Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun was nominated for the Accessibility Innovation of the Year at the 2024 MCV/DEVELOP Awards and we’ve taken that one step further with the sequel.

In addition to the returning gameplay accessibility settings like Invulnerability, Infinite Ammo, and Unlock all weapons, we’ve also expanded the existing options to include a new Undying Mode. Similar to invulnerability, this mode lets you experience damage but right before dying the Emperor will save you from your untimely demise.

A New Look at our Champions

Keen eyes may have noticed that we recently revealed a colourful new piece of artwork featuring Malum and Nyra.

This is another beautiful masterpiece created by the supremely talented Johan Grenier, who also created the art for the original Boltgun! We wanted something that incorporated the four Chaos god factions present in Boltgun 2 (now they’ve all been announced!) and the ominous nod to Vashtorr is perfect.

Faction Deep Dive - The Bloodthirsty Khorne

"Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!"

Hello Space Marines,

You may have seen various agents of Khorne across our trailers, screenshots, and even in the demo. So, today, we thought we’d take a closer look at some of the new Khorne enemies.

The ferocious bloodlust of Khorne enters the battlefield in the form of World Eater traitor Astartes and their demonic allies. Malum and Nyra will have to contend with blistering bolter fire and chain axes from World Eaters whilst fending off charging hordes of rage-filled daemons.

Bloodletters

The foot soldiers of Khorne are manifestations of hate and violence armed with dreaded hellblades and a thirst for blood. They aren’t the toughest of Khorne’s forces but are a deadly foe in close quarters.

Equipped with a Hellblade, they’ll leap toward you from a distance before viciously slashing away.

Bloodcrushers

Bloodcrushers are the deadly combination of a bloodletter mounted upon ferocious steeds called Juggernauts. This rage-filled cavalry charges across the battlefield with bodies of brass and iron that are nearly unstoppable. The blistering speed of these iron steeds means you’ll need to be agile, using the battlefield to your advantage.

Upon either unit reaching low or no health, the Bloodcrusher will split, leaving either the Juggernaut or Bloodletter to die while the other bears down upon you intent on revenge.

Flesh Hound

These howling hounds are wolf-like beasts that hunt their prey with dreadful teeth and vicious talons that can even cut through the armour of Space Marines.

When in battle, they first stalk their prey, circling them at a distance, before rapidly closing in for the kill. They also hunt in packs, so where there is one Flesh Hound, there’s likely more...

Khorne Berzerkers

The sole purpose of a Khorne Berzerker is to gain glory by slaughtering everything in sight with unfettered rage and bloodlust. They are fearless, bloodthirsty, and unhinged, charging straight into battle to destroy their enemies in the most brutal way, revelling in pain and bloodshed.

When reaching low health, Bezerkers enter a blood rage in a frenzied attempt to gain glory. This increases their movement speed, fire rate, and damage.

We don’t want to give everything away before Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches later this year, so there are a couple more Khorne enemies we’re keeping under wraps.

But keen eyes may have noticed a HUGE axe swing down at the end of our Skulls Showcase trailer...

The agents of Khorne are just one of the four legions of Chaos that Malum and Nyra will have to overcome in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

Faction Deep Dive - The Hedonistic Slaanesh

Loyal Subjects of the Emperor,

It is almost time to purge the foes of the Imperium that march under the banner of the daemonic deity Slaanesh.

The followers of Slaanesh believe in nothing short of excess, corrupting their bodies and minds in the pursuit of twisted pleasures and sensations. Among these followers are the Chaos Space Marines of the Emperor’s Children and the twisted warp forms of Slaaneshi daemons.

Daemonettes

These monstrous forms of twisted beauty dance around the battlefield, lunging with powerful pincers and claws. Their visage is startlingly otherworldly, as they pounce with quicksilver speed, attacking with such grace and agility that it appears almost as though they’re phasing in and out of reality.

Noise Marines

The iconic Noise Marines of the Emperor's Children are a true assault on the senses. They are Heretic Astartes equipped with devastating sonic weaponry that sends deafeningly intense shockwaves of discordant sound towards their enemies, rupturing armour and tearing flesh.

Tormentors

Tormentors are the aggressive front-line troops of the Emperor’s Children, whose speed defies their size within ornately detailed ceramite armour. They will send bolter rounds soaring towards you with supreme accuracy from across the battlefield.

But that’s not all... There’s one more Slaanesh enemy that’ll be joining in the fray in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2. We’ll leave that as a surprise to discover when it launches later this year.

The champions of Slaanesh are just one of the five subfactions of Chaos that Malum and Nyra will have to overcome in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, which launches October 14th on Steam, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to come at a later date.

Loyal subjects of the Emperor,

Last week we took part in June’s Steam Next Fest with the demo for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2. It was great to see so many players try it out and thank you to everyone who has submitted feedback/bug reports using the feedback form[www.aurochdigital.com].

But there were over 4,000 games that took part in Steam Next Fest with their demos! So, we’re planning to keep our demo up to make sure everyone has time to try it out.

Auroch Digital Play the Demo

If you haven’t seen it yet, two members of the Auroch Digital herd took the demo for a spin over on our YouTube channel.
