That would be focused on PvP instead of PvE though.
If FPS are your thing, Killing Floor or any Serious Sam game (except the 2D ones, such as Double D XXL and the Random Encounter, which are solo only) offers more than 4 players in a PvE environment (KF is up to 6, while Serious Sam supports up to 32 players.
I tend to like them too, but KF is more serious while Serious Sam is more silly, so, it's quite a lot in terms of gameplay.
EDIT : added exceptions to the serious sam games. Careful not to pick those ones for coop play.

The first ones I thought of was the serious sam HD remakes, you can play Co-op with loads of people and still make it a challenge.
BTW, you can run an own server for both of those games. I can give you a ready-to-use-script for Killing Floor 2 if you want.
Still, even Skycraft has that kind of problem...
