An Intro to steam
I play games on Steam simply because it's an easy way to search, buy and install from (I use Linux) but along the way I've noticed you get trading cards for the games you play. I've also noticed people are always talking about trading the cards and getting scammed!

What are the trading cards for? ie, I have 4 out of the possible 7 for Tomb Raider. What happens if I get all 7?

For some games I have two of the same card so I guess I can sell or trade the one I don't need... but then I read about people getting scammed and losing their Steam account. How can this happen? I know about typing your login details to a dodgy website but how can it happen on the Steam program? It makes me want to stay out of the trading game!
I read another post earlier where one person received a message saying "sorry, ive accidentally reported you for duplicate "something"" and the receiver reporting it a scam... how? It's just a message?

One last thing... how do you actually get the trading cards in the first place? There doesn't seem to be a list of challenges anywhere to get each card. I've seen a long list of achievements but that got about 85 tasks on it, not 7.

Thanks! After 2 years on Steam you would have thought I'd have worked this out by now!

Thank you!

I get it now! And Steam just made another £1.73 out of me! :-)

Thanks. I realised this when I bought a few cards to complete the badges. I sold a card too to go through the motions.

This is also a good opportunity to point out that Steam mods pay attention. I marked a post on this thread as spam and it has now vanished. ty Steam!

:-) result!

I should have added in my previous post ... the cards I wanted were 6p, I said I wanted to buy for 5p. Obviously, a sale didn't happen immediately. I cancelled and bought for 6p. Then when I listed as card I listed at the going sale rate (discovered there's a rake/commission for Steam) and it sold relatively quickly.

It's a good concept, though my profile is hidden! :-)
