Dota 2 sound issues/hotkey problems

I have recently installed the mac version of dota 2 (was previously using the windows version via playonmac). The sound works fine in the menus, but when I get into a game there is no sound. After about a minute game music and sounds from abilities start working, but I still have no sound from heroes or anoouncers. Also my hotkeys don't seem to be working. I have checked, they are assigned to the correct keys, it just does nothing when I press them.
Any ideas?

Audio wise, I managed to get heroes and announcers back (although they still kick in about 1:30 into a game). I put -console in the dota launch options, then opened dota and put dota_speech_level 2 into the console. It seemed mine had defaulted to 0 and needed changing back. My fps also seemed strangly low, but I just took the graphics down from everything on max and whilst not so pretty, it's playable. Still no idea about hotkeys

Hotkeys work after verifying cache integrity through game properties. Also fixed some graphics issues (random green boxes everywhere, pudge being invisible)

Im having the same problem. just downloaded the game from steam, started and the sound is not there. sometimes it comes, but then it lags. my game also runs slow, but i dont know if that is the game or my mac?

I can't hear anything with the exception of heroes. I have been thinking about contacting the company via e-mail to alert them to this problem seeing as how so many of us have encountered it without a set solution.
