That was one bad rant.
A shorter more clear version is all talk show hosts have giant staffs. Nobody is capable of just riffing it for long periods- and the entire late night talk show model is in trouble.
The market is divided and they cost a lot of money to produce- hence they all are in trouble. Steven Colbert was the first to go- and many will attempt to make hay of the politics when that is not the case.
The whole business model is in trouble.
There. That is the point- minus the long rant.
it's because, ironically, this is how he portrays himself; but is not the real content of his character.
it's like honey; he's a beautiful beehive of wax and comb, and he squeezes this down to get you the 'juice of sardony.' which is an obtuse and vague reference to people filling their ass with honey so that rimming is more pleasant, and occasionally they have an emotional moment and it drips.
literally this is the joke he submitted when he gave the speech I was referencing earlier in my post. knowing full well you cannot describe ass-honey play on air, and displaying humility in saying he's too ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up to write his speech himself and needs the writers to decide for him. as is the custom.
I'm aware of this cultural practice because I was one of the onion's byline leads in another timeline, and they'd give us tickets to these shows in lieu of overtime pay. vip stuff, chatting up the daily showers as a fellow humorist; the onion was a pretty big name once upon a time. the staff constantly thought the producer was sending us there to impose our rep over them and berate them, rather than an elaborate plot to just not pay us for our labor while simultaneously writing off our tickets as a tax benefit for both productions.
For decades, Johnny Carson had a near monopoly and could pull in much of the nation. Simple.
But now, the shows still take vast staffs and lots of costs to produce and there are waves of them and none can pull in the same unified audience.
Someone like Joe Rogan can produce a show with only a few people. That business model is simply vastly more profitable.
Stop focusing on the petty things like the individuals. The business model is the story.
did you know 'et' means 'suck,' and 'etcetera' used to mean 'list of donors?'
oh no; comedy!
That's what Colbert said.
what
His show is supposed to be comedy. Not telling me what to believe in.
Watch his video. THEN read my post. I destroy every point he makes. The post is long not because it's a "rant". But because JOHN spends 25 minutes trying to convince you that illegal immigration is acceptable. That anyone that opposes it are xenophobic racists.
It's not comedy. It's nothing but propaganda.
Still hope for him. One more year for him to prove himself, hey!
